Osumashi, Black Mamba DB Cooper and Denyse will be by to keep it all together.

I love a women’s voice. Women: The Best Jazz Vocals

“The Red Army is The Strongest” song is very cute Vlad.
Just prey they never run into these guys or you will have to find a new song.

      • Guys? Do they still accept guys into the Marines?

        • Drunk_by_Noon

The Marine Women will make you wish you had run into only the “guys”.

          • Scary.

          • I’ll say.

          • Xavier

Overkill. Send the TG Marines to fight Russians.
            Still overkill, though.

          • Norman_In_New_York

That marine has nothing on this babe, who fights ISIS to the death and takes no prisoners. Even Vlad respects her and her comrades.

          • Drunk_by_Noon

            Up a hundred times!
What is it about Kurdish women fighters that makes them look better than they otherwise would have?

    • Catchy tune there Vlad.

I hear Justin Trudeau tried to join the Marines awhile back, but he was turned down because they don’t accept women.

That is beautiful, as is the Soviet national anthem. But I’ve always found the anthem, just as I find the selection here, kind of sad – stirring, certainly, as they’re meant to be – but sad. Maybe it’s just projection because when I hear them I can’t not think of the decades of profound sorrow and suffering, perpetrated in the name of the communist ideal.

I checked the news this morning before I head out to cut some firewood. After non stop coverage of the Sikh conservative candidate in the media who said something negative about Canada’s most important group(homosexuals), the Toronto Sun has a story of an NDP Sikh candidate who has apologized for doing the same thing. All is forgiven and no mention of it in the rest of the media. Oh, and here is a shock, The Toronto Star editorial is upset with Harper’s stance on muslim women with bags over their heads. Harper is evil.

Bag lady is on front page of the Red Star…” I have a right to be here…this is my country”. What a sight for sore eyes , this early in the morning!

I also love a womans voice in song. It is easy listening. I crawled out from under my rock about six months ago and found Amy MacDonald. That girl has a HUGE voice, I hate to admit it but I have become a bit of a fanboy even though it not my usual fare as fare as music goes. I tend to like rock.

Try giving Elizabeth Shepherd a listen. Fantastic modern interpretations of standards sung in a kickass voice that will have you in thrall!

Also, Jill Barber is AMAZING! Original songs written and arranged in the classic crooner style, and sung in a smoky, sexy voice that will give you the chills.

Added bonus: Both these ladies are Canadian, and you can see them in concert on occasion. Both REALLY DELIVER in concert settings.

      • Blacksmith

Thanks for the tip I will look into it. I am a bit of a fan of some Canadian women singers.

        • Clink9

Jazz FM is a great station. Mobile app or website with non stop music streaming.

        • Justin St.Denis

Also, former folkie from the 1970s Shirley Eikhard has evolved into an INCREDIBLE jazz singer/composer/musician. You can’t go wrong with SE.

      • Blacksmith

Okay I have bought one so far, Check out the Puppini sisters.

        • Justin St.Denis

Will do. Thanks for the tip…

“I also love a woman’s voice in song”
      Singing: absolutely.
      DJ-ing: not so much.
I have to turn the station if the music is interspersed with comments from a female DJ. Aggravating enough with a male blithering away; worse with a female.
I know I’ll be pilloried; but there it is.

      • Blacksmith

We had a woman DJ here in St Louis on one of the oldies station that had the bedroom voice, you actually looked forward to her talking, She could read the dictionary and you felt the need for a cigarette after she stopped.

        • Mal

I hear you, Smith. Perhaps your favourite DJ had a voice pitched a bit lower. (Mind you, I can’t stand whisperers either. As enjoyable an actress she is, and as good as she has been for the Gurkhas, Joanna Lumley’s airy BBC “narrator” voice makes me jump for the mute button.)

      • Justin St.Denis

I have to agree with you. Before women entered broadcasting big time about 40 years ago, male broadcasters patronized vocal coaches to “train” their voices to be more mellifluous, listenable etc. It was on the advice of such a broadcaster that I got vocal training to correct “pitch” and “timbre” issues, and master “vocal pacing” as I tended to speak at 200 mph. I never forgot what I learned, and use it all every day.

But when women came along, it became SEXIST to suggest vocal coaching to anyone of the female persuasion, even in broadcasting. As a result, we encounter what sounds like nasal, screeching harpies all over TV and talk radio. Women are the worst offenders, but many males are equally irritating (can you spell “Chris Wallace”?)
