Stephen Hawking: Artificial intelligence could wipe out humanity

“The real risk with AI isn’t malice but competence,” Professor Hawking said. “A super intelligent AI will be extremely good at accomplishing its goals, and if those goals aren’t aligned with ours, we’re in trouble.”

    Stick to physics.

    • BillyHW

      It’s what he does best.

      • Xavier

        That’s debatable.

  • Drunk_by_Noon

I’ll take that risk if it means that there is even a CHANCE that America’s enemies could wake up one morning and see a few thousand of these marching across their landscape.

  • Brett_McS

And then they’ll invent a time machine and one of the last hold-outs of humanity will sneak into it, go back in time and kill the guy who invented AI.

No matter how advanced AI might become, there will always be a pimply nerd in a basement somewhere who figures out how to hack the machine and make it do nothing but recite bubble gum one hit wonders from the 60s

  • BillyHW

I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords.

      She’s a woman, BillyHW.
I thought you were staunchly opposed to women in positions of power.

      • BillyHW

        She’s a robot.

          You’d do her.

You know, either there is no accounting for taste.
Or I fail the gay test every once in a while.
            Yes, once, in, a while.
I saw a picture of a beautiful woman standing in front of a car which was in front of a plane.
All I saw was the ’57 Buick.
            Therefore failed the gay test.
But, I’d get a lot of riders iffen I had that car.
I would have never screwed Madonna.
Courtney Cox at her peak was way hotter than Jennifer Aniston and if you press me on it I can show you the exact moment of her peak in an episode of Friends.
Jane Seymour is ugly as sin.
            Kate Pierson is awesome.
As is that chick from the Cocteau Twins and that other one from the Sundays.
Belinda Butcher from My Bloody Valentine is tops.
I’d go on, but gay test.

    • Lord she was hot.

“Everyone can enjoy a life of luxurious leisure if the machine-produced wealth is shared, or most people can end up miserably poor if the machine-owners successfully lobby against wealth redistribution,” Hawking said. “So far, the trend seems to be toward the second option, with technology driving ever-increasing inequality.”

Commie propaganda piece dressed as tech writing.

SciFi, and undoubtedly our own bipedalism, has led us into this robot/AI synthesis idea. Why should both of those obstacles be conquered at once? Wouldn’t it make more sense to let an AI make decisions – its strong point – and not worry about mobility, at least in the beginning?

If AI ever becomes viable, it will probably first be used in a military decision application like battle strategy or logistics. In the long run Hawking is probably correct (and you have no idea how it pains me to say that) because once the military in charge of AI, they will make it break things.

    • David Murrell

I agree with you, and disagree with most of the comments on this thread. A case in point – we all agree that our pseudo “human-rights” establishment wants to destroy democracy and Western civilization. And with AI, the establishment wants the machines to have “human rights” as well.

    • El Martyachi

In fairness, there’s plenty of things in need of a good stern breaking.

The most overrated Jew-hatin’ “scientist” the world has ever known. Another Moonbat hero we had better ignore.
