Benjamin Netanyahu bans MPs from al-Aqsa compound as six Israelis stabbed in one day

Benjamin Netanyahu has banned MPs and cabinet ministers from going near al-Aqsa mosque as six Israelis were injured in stabbing attacks across the country on Thursday.

The Israeli prime minister was criticised by members of his own coalition for the ban on access to the volatile Jerusalem compound which initially applied to all parliamentarians except for those who were Arab-Israelis.

But following outraged reactions from hard-liners within his own governing coalition, Mr Netanyahu announced that all Knesset members would be barred from the site without exception.
