SULAIMANI – A 21-year-old woman was the victim of an honor killing in the Kurdish city of Sulaimani, following repeated threats by her family, an official said.
Identified as Snur, the woman was living in a shelter for nearly a year until her father fatally shot her in a local park on October 2, Sulaimani Police spokesman Sarkawt Ahmed said Saturday.
“The woman died after she was transferred to a hospital,” Ahmed said.
Ahmed confirmed that the woman’s father killed her and that a court ordered his arrest “according to article 406 of the Iraqi penal code.”
Snur reportedly sought refuge at a local women’s shelter after facing issues with her family. Four months later, she married a man who has now been arrested in connection to her murder, along with a friend of his.
