Audi says 2.1million of its diesel cars worldwide are fitted with emissions cheat devices

Volkswagen’s top-of-the-range automaker Audi today admitted that 2.1million of its diesel cars worldwide are fitted with the sophisticated software enabling them to cheat emission tests.

Some 1.42 million Audi vehicles with so-called EU5 engines are affected in Western Europe, with 577,000 in Germany and almost 13,000 in the United States, an Audi spokesman said.
Affected model lines include the A1, A3, A4, A5, A6, TT, Q3 and Q5.

The announcement came as German prosecutors today opened a Fraud investigation against former Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn to establish what his role was in the company’s emissions-rigging scandal.

I’m still trying to wrap my head around the scale of this stupidity.

But perhaps I shouldn’t, no one went to jail for sub-prime mortgages, the Libor rate scandal netted one low level sacrifice, GM paid a fine for murder, Ontario is run by Kleptocrats without conscience, etc etc…

The takeaway… Get rich, steal big like a white collar criminal, face no consequences.

    Until quite recently in BC we had “Air Care” or a tax by any other name. Every two years you were forced to run your vehicle through their fleecing machine, $78 thank you very much. I wonder if the volkswagen dealers were involved in collusion?

    What is criminal is forcing an automotive company to produce results where the engine actually runs less efficiently during the test, and calling that environmentally friendly. If your argument is a reduction in CO2 and other gasses, then higher efficiency, less fuel consumed would be better, generally.

    When the dust has settled the VW Clean Diesels will still be known and cherished for simply being the finest cars VW ever produced.
    I have owned three VW diesels, from one of the first diesels introduced into BC in 1978 to my last one a 2009 VW wagon. All have been the paragon of good design, reliability and most of all damn good fun to drive.

    If I was in the Government and watched over the EPA I would want to know which morons have just blindly trusted the claims by the Auto Companies while they expected a nice FAT pay check to merely be a paper-pusher.
    There were people within the Banks that were held responsible for the damage done during the Bre-X fraud and NORTEL scam because they endorsed these Shares to invest in while not investigating the amazing claims for profits or Gold finds that now other Company could match.
    Nobody in the Government had the brains to employee software geniuses to examine the cars on board Computers for a back-door hacking or the RAM and ROM function .

    It must be part of getting hired in the Government to fail the IQ tests
    because even today in Canada we have a valid threat by the islamists and the quran while not one of the NDP and Liberal MP has read it to see the facts, then we have the extraordinary claims by Al Gore on his AGW while our DOLTS in the NDP the Libs and on campus that DON’T demand extraordinary Evidence since we’ve had 18 years of a near zero change and the Volstok Ice-Core records for the 400,000 years where co2 followed a rise in temps.

    The big scam by the Diesel folks and Oil companies is that Rudolph Diesel and Henry Ford designed their engines to run on bio fuels from the farms because gas stations were mainly placed near the big cities or populated areas in the countrysides .
    The diesel could run on peanut oil or any fuel that could burn and expand because the Diesel was a super high compression that didn’t need spark plugs. Standard Oil was bent on killing these engines so they funded the Temperance groups to bring about the Prohibitions for alcohol. The trick was to get the Patent Office to stop giving out the plans for home made stills to made fuel from plants , then make it a crime to make alcohol to sell for a profit in public.
    Tada…. the Model T flex-fuel system died while Standard Oil lost money building gas stations in remote areas closer to the farmers to get them off bio-fuels to ruin the farm machines.

    For years now I laughed at the TTC dolts in the PR office that boasted over their buses using Diesel fuel with a bio mix when they could have got straight plant oil.
    Now I see the NDP in my area pushing for the end to the Diesel Engines the drive the Go Trains and the NDP wants the to be Electric.
    Well Duh……the GO Train IS a Diesel Electric for direct power like the Street cars minus the over head power line. The NDP wants the GO trains to be just as bad as the TTC subway or street cars where once the power goes out the system stops , plus the NDP hasn’t told us where all the copper and metal wires are going to come from to electrify the trains outdoors in our severe weather during the winter.

    VW got away with this because the emissions from their affected diesel cars are invisible. Maybe, just maybe, the standards have become too extreme.

    The best part is that every state in the US can now screw the daylights out of all those owners. Demand hugely expensive one off retrofits or you can’t register your vehicle.

    Nothing concerning German deception surprises me, after all the engineers who wrote the software are the children and grand children of Germans who told Jews “Just take this shower before we put you to work”.

    So far, no one has demonstrated that the ‘increase emissions’ were dangerous, and by how much. And the “40x” announcement could be a case of multiplying zero.
