Low Level Liberal Charged In Sudbury Byelection Scandal

Ontario Provincial Police have laid criminal charges against a top Sudbury Liberal activist in connection with the byelection scandal that rocked Premier Kathleen Wynne’s government earlier this year.

But police have cleared Pat Sorbara, Wynne’s deputy chief of staff, of any wrongdoing in the lead-up to the Feb. 5 byelection won by the Liberals.

Gerry Lougheed, chair of the Greater Sudbury Police Services Board, was charged with one count of counselling an offence not committed and one count of unlawfully influencing or negotiating appointments.
