Justin promises to increase funding for CBC in exchange for? Favourable coverage? #elxn42

The Liberals would give $380 million in additional funding for the arts and undo the Conservative funding cuts to the CBC, Justin Trudeau announced Tuesday.

Trudeau said he would reverse the $115 million in cuts the Conservative government made to the national broadcaster annually for three years and top up funding for CBC/Radio-Canada by an additional $35 million per year.

The Conservatives should have cancelled all funding for the CBC as soon as they had finally won a majority government years ago. Continuing to fund the Liberal partisan CBC is one of the biggest mistakes Stephen Harper has ever made.

    • Tokenn

Apparently Harper isn’t the dictatorial partisan prick his enemies make him out to be. Too bad, actually. ..

    • Alain

Yes, it should have gone the same way as the Wheat Board.

  • David Murrell

I checked the CBC News web page for the article on this, and it was buried in the “arts and entertinment” page. The CBC wants to hide the obvious bribe going on here.

  • Tokenn

The government should offer to sell the CBC for one dollar to any Liberal that wants it…on the condition that the buyer uses his own money to run it. That would kill two birds with one stone. ..

    • canminuteman

They should fire all the staff, drag all their equipment out to the street for a yard sale then the CBC headquarters should be turned into a parking lot, or condos.

  • Censored_EG

Maybe they’ll make a comedy version of ‘This Hour Has 22 Minutes’. *sigh* Frankly, I’m not holding my breath.

    • dance…dancetotheradio

      That is funny.
      That is funny.

    • Clausewitz

Don’t forget to fire all of the “Official Government Comics”.

  • Ron MacDonald

I’m certain if Harper were to announce he would de-fund the CBC he would get more votes than Trudeau.

  • Alain

Has anyone discovered an example of unfavourable coverage of the man-child by the CBC? I certainly haven’t.

    • Petrilla

Does anyone know anyone who still watches or listens to the CBC? What are the stats? If by accident I see a minute or two, it is all favourable to anyone but Harper. I like the idea of a yard sale and condos.

      • Mickey Oberman

There is much good material on the CBC.
Unfortunately it is tainted by that biased corporation and its management and the followers of the dictates of that unsavoury group.

    • Mickey Oberman

      The CBC is highly sensitive.
It would not want to hurt the juvenile feelings of a “young” man who has not yet even learned to comb his hair.

  • canminuteman

No free country has any business having a state run media outlet.

  • Everyone Else

The CBC is hopelessly lost in a left wing echo chamber. Rotten wood to the core.

I couldn’t believe a recent radio show saying what would be on upcoming Ideas – every single show permeated with bias. Greg Kelly and your managers, you’re a disgrace to honest journalism.

Judging by the programing, the CBC is already working on fighting the next election.

  • Shebel

I did not think that Justin was dumb enough to admit that as a Positive.
    This is vewy ,vewy, swerry.

  • Ed

You skeptics need to realize that promises from the heart are forever!

  • Shebel

Not hard to to tell what Justin means when he talks about ‘Transparency’. It means Blatant favouritism for his friends to delve into the never-ending box of tax -payer loot as long as they make him look good.
The CBC and Kathleen Wynne are betting it.

  • Edubeat

Methinks Justin has really never said anything that’s quotable unless its directed to others of his ilk who boast a room temperature IQ

    • Mickey Oberman

      It’s his script writers’ fault.
No one should ever expect an original quotable quote from Trudeau.

  • Yusuf_Al_Kafir

    ‘increase funding’

In other words, pay them back for all of the water carrying they have done for Justin over the years.

    • David Murrell

Means some fat salary hikes for CBC news flunkies.

  • Mickey Oberman

Justin’s Major election platform is. “Borrow. Spend.” in his desire to out-Greece Greece.
No mention of pay back, a la Greece.
