How Do America’s Poor Really Live? Examining the Census Poverty Report

“The left likes to claim that the U.S. has far more poverty than other advanced nations. But those claims are based on comparisons that set a higher standard for escaping poverty in the U.S. than elsewhere.”

They all have air conditioners, giant-screen tvs, Blu-Ray/DVD players, cable/satellite, cars, refrigerators/freezers.

And they all have nicer phones than me too (and better phone plans!).

    • I agree about the phone plans but then again most 3rd world countries have better phone plans than we do.

…and where do all those islamic invaders into Europe charge their iphones and how do they get cool nike shoes.

  • Maurixio Garciasanchez

The worst poverty in the US is visible , in any big , or small city people are living on the streets , whits , blacks , latinos etc .

    • Shebel

If your whole damned community lives like you—then you are not poor.

      • Maurixio Garciasanchez

We are not talking about race or certain communities in here misery doesn’t have color or race , anyone who born to be in the misery most likely there is no cure for it .

        • Shebel

So—You would like to lay a guilt trip on me?

    • Shebel

      What is a Whit?

      • Minicapt

        Not Maurixy.

Those are crazy people and crack heads like your whore mother. There are programs to provide food, health care, housing, income, etc to anyone who needs it. You just need to be able and willing to fill out the forms. Living in poverty in the U.S. does not mean going without. There has always been and always will be a lowest x%, like your whore sisters and their brood of bastard offspring.

  • Shebel

Screw the fucking poor. You help them !
You don’t realize that a lot of them are really happy.

    • disqusW6sf

      So agree.

  • Norman_In_New_York

The cost of living varies from one location to another, so it’s hard to generalize, and yes, we regard computers and cell phones as two of life’s necessities.

    • Shebel

I don’t have a cell phone . I used to. Took me a while to get rid of it. Now ,I don’t miss it.

      • Canadian

I never had one, and don`t see a need for it.

  • Shebel

These are my kind of people— You should not judge people that don’t need Gov’t.

In Canada we have our share – watch any episode of the Trailer Park Boys.

  • Poverty in the First-World is quite different from poverty in the Third-World. People fail to factor that in. If one can live off of the largesse of the state, how bad are things?

Excluding the schlubs who think the world owes them a favour for being ghetto/trailer-trash, one is not being helpful by handing out welfare when the state’s resources could be put to better use by creating jobs and certainly by reforming the taxation system (ie- business taxes).

    But that’s just practical.

    • Xavier

Just for clarification, why exclude the ghetto/trailer trash?

      • Because they are a different species from the working poor or those who hit a bump and want to get back on their feet.

I have seen Nigerian toddlers with extended navels from malnutrition, leprosy, elephantiasis and things I could not even describe here. That is beyond poor.
Let’s not degenerate to that level. We will not ever be able to help Africans by importing their best and brightest while subsidizing their worst actors while they hide their loot in Euro banks.
