US launches secret drone war against Islamic State in Syria

The CIA and US Special Forces have launched a secret drone programme in Syria, designed to hunt down and kill high-value members of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

The collaboration, in which both organisations fly armed drones over the country, has resulted in strikes against “several” senior Isil leaders, including a British jihadist, American officials have told the Washington Post.

It indicates an escalation in American attempts to achieve President Barack Obama’s goal to “degrade” and “destroy” the jihadist movement, as it continues to control large swathes of Iraq and Syria.

I hate to start an argument with the paleo-conservative (isolationist) wing of conservatism, and I hate President Obama’s views and actions as much as anyone else. But any action to kill Islamic State mad-dog criminals — by anyone — and having these insane people killed — I view as a positive think. And I support Stephen Harper’s actions to have Canada involved in killing of Islamic State criminals. I oppose Trudeau’s and Mulcair’s promise to end Canada’s action. Any dead Islamic State criminal is a positive development.

Yes. “Caliphate” should in time be a word used to describe sand that’s been melted into glass. “Nice caliphate vase you have there…”

      • Justin St.Denis

Precisely. A very realistic approach given the demonstrated nature of the enemy.

They keep using this word “secret” I’m pretty sure they don’t know what it means

    • Norman_In_New_York

Of course it’s secret. It’s on Hillary’s server.

  • While I’m all for killing Isis people, I can’t help wondering why Obama is doing it. Would it be perhaps to assist his Iranian regime friends?

Whatever is happening in Syria is more political than the real problem with those terrorists, the US is been there more than a year bombing there so what’s really going ? Well I guess those terrorists are hidden in caves well protected against bombs and missiles.

David Petraeus recently “suggested” using al-Qaeda to fight ISIS.

I’m not sure if this was really his idea or if the Whitehouse persuaded him in anyway. It seems like something the Whitehouse may already be doing covertly.

The problem would be finding someone with the knowledge and background to ‘direct’ a war between Arab tribes. Fifty years ago, one might have found such experts, but the current White House/Pentagon/State Department troika has been assiduously removing such people from their rolls.

They don’t need much direction, Arabs have a long tradition of warring tribalism, this predates Islam.
