Chrissie Hynde prompts outrage by saying rape victims ‘have to take responsibility’

Singer Chrissie Hynde has been slammed by women’s charities for saying that rape victims ‘have to take responsibility’ for what happened to them.

Speaking about her own experiences, the Pretenders rocker, 63, said she blames herself after being forced to perform sexual acts under the threat of violence when she was 21.

However Victim Support has hit back, insisting victims should never be made to feel responsible – regardless of the circumstances which left them vulnerable.

I think women voters should take responsibility for all the foreign rapists they let into the country.

    • Heh;)

    • UCSPanther

Goes for male voters too. Neither gender has a monopoly on stupidity.

      • canminuteman

If women were never allowed to vote, it is likely that there would never have been a socialist government anywhere in the western world.

        • Gary

So you support Wynne and Hillary???????????????

        • El Martyachi

That’s often the case. And ya can’t just lay into a crowd of protesting women the same way as men.

          • disqusW6sf

it’s like palestinians using children as shields there is always outrage. For self preservation we will one of these days need to “lay into” the crowd regardless.

          • El Martyachi

And because I post this video at every possible opportunity… however tenuously related…

Please. Who invented socialism and Marxism? Men have f’d up throughout history quite well on their own, without any help from women.

          • canminuteman

I concede the point.men invented socialism and Marxism, and just about every other thing under the sun. Look out your window. Do you see a single thing that was not invented by and built by men? But if you look at exit polls from any election we have had you will see that substantially more women than men vote socialist, and substantially more men than women vote for reality based parties. Also, read the article in the link in El Martyachi’s post.

          • I have never voted for a socialist in my life.

What are you saying about me?

Yes, a good deal of women are stupid but that’s not all of them.

          • El Martyachi

In fairness, not all women are…

          • Stupid? Smart? Fit to vote? A combination?

          • Mickey Oberman

“There is a woman behind every successful man.”
That would include dictators, tyrants and all kinds of criminals.
            Even Hitler had Eva Braun.
Yasser Arafat may have been an exception.
He probably had a man or men behind him.

… yet another fairy tale to make people, in this case women, feel better about themselves.

      • Millie_Woods

Agreed. But women have managed to make their ‘stupidity’ a moral imperative. When it comes to stupid ideas and demands, women more than any other group, resemble muslims. Outlaw bike gangs have a better grip on reality.

        • ntt1

maybe this is why the vast majority of “safety officers” are female. They get to mandate silly little rules that grizzled floor monkeys are forced to follow.

      • I didn’t vote for mass immigration. Did any of you?

There must have been a referendum. Somehow I missed it.

        • BillyHW

No, you voted for puppy dogs and kittens and free this and free that and the demonic womanizing males with the nice hair let the the immigrants slip in the back way while you were looking the other way. It’s been that way since the garden.

          Try to follow along BM.

          • El Martyachi

… and I wants me fookin’ rib back already!

          • Alain

I seriously doubt that applies to Black Mamba based on the type of comments she makes.

          • BillyHW

When I say “you”, I mean the entire mass of women voters.

          • If BM’s vote was the only thing keeping the Shiny Pony out, you’d be damn glad for it.

          • If only I’d voted Conservative and Harper had been in power these last few years. Immigration would be at a standstill!

          • BillyHW

The entire set of issues that are at play and under discussion are different when more than half the voters are PMSing. Sorry, you still don’t get it. Harper and the Conservatives are every bit as much of a creation of feminism as are the Liberals/NDP.

          • Please don’t tell me what I do and don’t get, Billy.

    • WalterBannon

agreed, women as a group vote overwhelmingly to the left

It probably has to do with the innate biological appeal of the nanny state, as a replacement for finding a mate to support them

      • BillyHW

For them, it’s a Daddy State.

      • Justin St.Denis

The female sex is far more comfortable with “ambiguity” than are men. Ambiguity makes men very uncomfortable. Hence, an ambiguous political player can win the women’s vote, while men will stay away from such a political player in droves. Unfortunately for us all, very horrible and evil people find it quite easy to disguise themselves in ambiguities for the benefit of women and actually win their support (votes).

        • BillyHW

Women are very easily deceived. The ancients understood this. They even wrote a book about it.

          • Justin St.Denis

Which book would that be? Can you explain more…

      • ntt1

if cats ever organized a party we would be hooped.

I have always had a thing for her voice but was repelled by her ardent progressivism but now ,it seems that age and wisdom are starting to assert themselves and conservative ideas are creeping in.

    • Petey the First

It happens to all of us.

      • Alain

It should but sadly it doesn’t. I have met a few older than I, and I am a senior, whose minds remain as tightly shut as a sprung trap.

        • Justin St.Denis

Me, too. Leftists and progressives of my own age scare the bejesus outta me. How can they be THAT effin’ stupid/crazy after sticking around all these years? It’s a mystery wrapped in a conundrum, and all boxed up in a puzzle.

Please do not assume that is the case here in BC. It is for the most part the case of urbanites in Vancouver and Victoria but not the whole province. I admit to being more than a bit annoyed when I am grouped with the Vancouver metrosexuals.

          • El Martyachi

… problem is you’re way outnumbered.

          • ntt1

yes, but we do have them bunched up and parked on some of the most unproductive drought stricken land in the province. they are as vulnerable as all get out.

            It’ll take an earthquake.

          • ntt1

yep me too , and i suspect a lot of the marxist meterosexuals are ethicly cleansed from the other provinces and collect up in the gutters of Vancouver and Victoria

          • lolwut?

Maybe not the whole province, but BC does have a very left leaning slant, as does the whole west coast of North America.

The 60’s hasn’t really left the West coast of Canada and the USA.

        • Surele Surele

agreed, some people are just stuck in their mindset, and never look outside the proverbial box. I took me just one trip from socialist Poland to one capitalist country. And it was Denmark, not very capitalist, quite the opposite. but it was enough for me to ask: did they lie to us. And to understand, yes, they lied every time they opened their mouths or printed an article or posted a slogan on the wall.
But I have to say, ice cream never tasted better than on the First of May, when Summer started and after a line up of about 45 mins, I got my frozen treasure first time during the year.

wisdom does not come with age, it comes with learning

left wing idiots never learn – they are too busy putting their fingers in their ears and chanting their dogma when faced with any ideas that challenge their thinking

        • Surele Surele

I blame the education. nobody bothers to teach history anymore. socialism and communism failed not such a long time ago. do the kids know? young adults? I can tell you how it doesn’t work.

          • disqusW6sf

They teach social studies . It is disgraceful. Although who knows what kind of history would be taught.

          • Alain

It is pure indoctrination and propaganda. I say this after having seen the books used when my adult children were in school. Today it is even worse.

          • Alain

I know what you are saying but have to question that as an excuse. Most of my real learning actually took place after leaving school (university included), because I tended to question things. In truth the school of real life taught me far more, and much more useful things, than any school/university. This is why I confess that people who just swallow whatever they hear or read somewhere without checking it out boggle my mind.

        • Alain

          Bingo.

        • Mickey Oberman

Having seen what learning has done to so many university professors I must disagree with you.

      • Surele Surele

        at least some of us.

  • Alain

She is correct but has touched forbidden areas. One is that anyone, but especially women, should be held responsible for their actions and decisions, and that being a woman does not automatically equate to being a totally innocent victim. I find nothing where she suggests that rape is acceptable, only that there are cases where had the woman not made stupid decisions it would not have happened.

    • moraywatson

As you note, she is correct. If you are hanging around in a “rape culture” stop hanging around in it.

    • Blacksmith

Decisions have consequences, there are two sides to every story though. I think the rapist should pay dearly for what they have done and publicly so that others may know of the consequences.

      • Alain

I do not disagree in the least. Also there are clearly cases of rape where it was the not the result of a bad decision by the woman. However for the majority of cases,or at least those claimed, it is never black and white.

Whether you are male or female and you have been told that taking a stroll through a certain area or neighbourhood is very dangerous, and you ignore that advice and go there, you carry a certain amount of responsibility for what happens to you.

  • Martin B

“If I’m walking and I’m very modestly dressed and I’m keeping to my self and someone attacks me, then I’d say that’s his fault”

The trouble with this line of reasoning is that it won’t save her or any other infidel woman from being raped by Mohammedans.

I’m also disappointed that she never tells women to take responsibility by packing some 38 caliber rape prevention and learning to use it. Sadly that’s not a (legal) option for women in most places, but she’s American, and for her it is.

    • disqusW6sf

I agree about packing something even in countries where you can’t carry a weapon. Wear a hat pin.

        • disqusW6sf

      • Justin St.Denis

Or a lady’s pistol. Screw what is legal! My wife carries the cutest little pearl-handled pistol in her purse. I got it for her years ago during an extended business trip to Nevada. She has joked to people who spied it in her purse that it’s “.. just a lighter…”. And it actually could be just a lighter! 😉

        • El Martyachi

I kinda don’t believe you, as usual.

          • Justin St.Denis

As you wish. I don’t really give a fuck. I honestly don’t. Don’t believe that, either, for all I care. I really have not a single fuck to give about that. 🙂

      • LauraS

Worked for an elderly relative from Scotland. When she was a young lady (I think this was during the 1930s), a man sat next to her in a movie theatre and his hands started roaming towards her knee. She stabbed his arm with a hatpin, he left in great pain, and she enjoyed the rest of the movie in peace. Love that story.

    • Blacksmith

Agreed, pisslamist rapist should be be beheaded down low and left to bleed.

  • Blacksmith

Chrissy is right, making poor decision has probably led to some rapes. Women need to be careful and aware.
Having said that I also think their is another side to argument. It should be safe for women to be unaccompanied and they should not have to fear everywhere they go. All rapist should be punished to the fullest extent of the law, and castrated with a wood chipper if they are male, then it should be posted publicly in plain sight for all to know.

    • WalterBannon

It should be safe for everyone to go everywhere, but I still do not go to muslim countries because in the real world it is not very safe in a lot of places and situations. Liberal blinkered thinking is dangerous.

But that still does not make the victim to “blame” for the decision by bad people to assault them. It does however make them stupid for putting themselves in that risky situation which could have been anticipated.

  • She continued: ‘Technically speaking, however you want to look at it, this was all my doing and I take full responsibility.

    I’m sorry, that’s crazy. She’s now 100% responsible?

The problem or a problem with this line of reasoning is that there is no one standard for “modestly dressed”. I’m also pretty sure that the psychological triggers for rape are rather more complicated than “how much skin is she showing”.

    • lolwut?

Rapists will still rape no matter how you dress but if you dress like a total skank and act like a total skank you’re gonna attract the type of people who are most likely going to treat you like shit and have no problems having a little fun with his buddies when you pass.out.

The only sympathy I have if for girls who are in a bad mental state from abuse
and hate themselves and act out by basically hanging a “Open for business” for
      all the doucebags to see.

My ex-girlfriend had a roommate like that, she’d go out of bars and get a wasted
as humanly possible and then come home the next morning with finger print bruises all over her, no panties and torn clothes. Her favorite bar to go was thug central.
once saw her getting stuffed into a car flopping around like a rag doll by a bunch
of “Aspiring rapper” types. when my GF and I were at a bar next door.

      • El Martyachi

        um.. Surrey?

        • lolwut?

Nope, Near Commercial. lived in a nice ground floor apartment

The girl had some SERIOUS issues
She didn’t dress or look skanky, had a regular job but come Friday and Saturday night she would literally throw herself to the wolves
and come crawling home looking like she spent the night with ISIS.

          • El Martyachi

There’s way too many gals like that.

          • lolwut?

There’s skanks and then there was this girl, if you saw her pouring out of a cab onto the sidewalk after one of her nights out, I was like WTF!
when I first saw her while sipping a smoothie on the porch with my GF.

She’s like, ya that’s my roommate, she’s kinda messed up.

    • El Martyachi

If you’re ever interested in developing, through extensive trial and error, a standard for what construes “modestly dressed”.. well.. ya know.

      • Oh, Marty. You do make me giggle girlishly.

        • El Martyachi

Sometimes all I see are pigtails and inkwells.

  • kkruger71

Maybe she is trying to be provocative, but to me she sounds just as wrong as those objecting to her. No, her situation was not that she was 100% responsible. Her decision to go with them was 100% wrong, and she bears a lot of the responsibility, but to say she is 100% responsible leaves nothing to the perpetrators. Men are not all animalistic rapists that can’t control themselves, some choose to act out and rape. I don’t care if a woman is dancing naked in front of you, if she says no to sex, than it is up to the man to not to. That said, her point is valid in that women need to understand that rape is a possibility and if they knowingly put themselves in a situation where it might happen, they are partly responsible themselves.
By right, everyone should be able to leave their car parked, unlocked, with the keys in the ignition. However if you were to do so and it got stolen, that’s partly on you. Leave it locked with an alarm system in your own driveway and it’s stolen? Not your fault, you took the necessary precautions. Leave it unattended and unlocked overnight, even without the keys, in a poor urban area and it gets stolen? Yeah, partly on you. Rape is a crime like any other, where if you don’t take any precautions to prevent it, you bear some of the responsibility.

  • Hard Little Machine

If you define rape as eye rolls and catcalls then yes I can understand their anger at Chrissie. But Chrissie as a 63 year old woman sees rape as the forced sexual assault and penetration of one person by another person or persons. So Chrissie’s just calling out the 3rd wave remtards with their own words.

  • Rape is a disgusting crime that cannot be excused.

Having said that, strolling about drunk is like having wads of cash in one’s hand: it attracts the wrong sort of attention.
