TORONTO – Justin Trudeau wants to grow Canada’s middle class, but he can’t define it.
During a campaign stop in Scarborough on Tuesday with former prime minister Paul Martin, Trudeau dodged a request for his definition.
“I’m going to let economists, and I have a few around me, argue over which quintile or decile the middle class begins or ends in,” Trudeau said after unveiling the Liberal candidates he would rely on for economic advice if elected to form the next government. “We’ve made our policies very clear. We think it is a mistake for Mr. (Stephen) Harper to continually send child-benefit cheques to families of people making over $200,000 a year. Instead, we’ve chosen to give more generous benefit cheques to every family making $150,000 a year or less.
