America and the Holocaust: The Past as Prologue

There are two kinds of evil-doers: those who kill, rape, beat, and brutalize others, and those who let this happen.

The story of American and British indifference to the fate of Jews during the Second World War still makes for disturbing reading.

It’s worth revisiting the subject for three reasons…

The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don’t do anything about it. -Albert Einstein

I spite of the assertions of rampant or deep-rooted American antisemitism by the author, there are about as many Jews living in America as there are in Israel.
I’m not sure what I’m supposed to take away from a piece such as this other than ‘the holocaust is America’s fault’ because we were not clairvoyant in predicting unprecedented events or stop Hitler by going to war.

I believe it is that history is more or less repeating itself via the Iran deal. (Israel replaces the Jews in this scenario.)

My additional take: Much as HItler’s focus on Jews was a precursor to terrible events for the world, this deal with Iran and ignoring Islamic shenanigans of all kinds also foreshadows bad things.

  • Today’s EU and US are not merely indifferent to the dangers threatening Israel, they are positively participating in supporting and increasing those dangers in a multitude of ways. It is not mere happenstance, indifference or negligence, it is enemy action, deliberate and even concerted. This applies equally to governments, media, universities, churches, etc. – all segments of society. Deep inside many of the people concerned is a virulent anti-Semitism, even if most of them would never admit it even to themselves, though some of them openly admit it.

    • The Iran deal will release a flood-tide of such sentiment, however genteelly masked.

      • Yes, I agree, the anti-Israel hatred will now be released in full. It won’t need masking.

I think the author needs to actually step outside of the books and talk to people. Making list explaining the reasons behind anti jew sentiment in the 1940’s amounts to pure conjecture. Talk to some europeans who were there at the time about why they held anit jew feelings (you may have to go to a relative to get an honest answer though). Or even just talk to your average poster of anti jew rhetoric in the comments section of many articles on the net.
