Why Putin’s anti-gay crusaders have a soft spot for polygamy

Homosexuality may not be tolerated in today’s Russia, nor political dissent. Polygamy, though, is a different matter. Ever since news broke this summer of a 57-year-old police chief in Chechnya bullying a 17-year-old local girl into becoming his second wife, Russian nationalists and Islamic leaders alike have been lining up to call for a man’s right to take more than one wife.

What woman would volunteer to join a wife group? Polygamy is 2-bit slavery.

    • canminuteman

It might very well be, but I have seen data on several occasions that shows most women would rather be the second or third wife of a rich powerful man than the only wife of a lower status man.

This is born out by the fact that it is not uncommon for rich men to have a string of mistresses who each know of their status in the pecking order but are good with it because free stuff.

This corresponds to the anecdotal data I’ve accumulated over time that shows most women are cunts.

Polygamy is still heterosexual and many traditional societies do still practice
it and see it as a natural way of sexuality and it is even in the Bible! Solomon had close to a thousands wives and concubines but homosexuality is unnatural, sinful and perversion of the natural order.

      • El Martyachi

Look, let’s be open minded about this. If someone, say.. you, wants to be the receptive partner in a polygamous homosexual household, it’s your inalienable civil right, goddamn it. And everyone else should be forced to celebrate it!

        • Fran800

Forced to tolerate it, maybe. Celebrate it? Aye, there’s the rub. We don’t need to celebrate ANYTHING if we don’t want to.

          • El Martyachi

Good luck defining sane boundaries of tolerance today.

The prevalence of alcoholism has led many a Russian woman to seek romance outside their country.

“Could it be that for the Kremlin, questions of law, God and ideology come second to the political expediency of the moment?”

Is Putin a courageous and passionate idealist, or a single-minded megalomaniac whose only interest is in maintaining and increasing his own power and prestige? Hmm, I think I’ll go with number 2.

    • El Martyachi

Both really. He’s a Chekist. Single-mindedly maintaining and increasing power is baked into the ideology.

My question is: what has homosexuality got to do with polygamy? Why would someone opposed to the former necessarily lean a certain way with regard to the latter?
As for it being slavery, and the product of low self esteem, yada yada, I think many would say the same thing about marriage in general. I mean , if I want a ‘partner’ I can start a business, and if I want sex, tinder is free. What’s that you say? Love? Devotion? Well in that case who says you cannot love or be devoted to two people at once?

Polygamy is natural whether we approve or not, while SSM has never been considered natural or normal in any civilisation. You are correct that they are not comparable.
