Mulcair’s carbon confusion

NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair, the man most likely to become the next prime minister of Canada if it’s not Stephen Harper, either doesn’t understand what carbon pricing is, or is pretending he doesn’t. Either prospect is alarming.

This was revealed during the Maclean’s leaders’ debate Thursday when moderator Paul Wells asked him whether internalizing the costs of the Energy East oil pipeline, which Mulcair has said is necessary for the project to become viable, would raise gasoline prices at the pump.

The honest answer to that question is, “yes”.
