At least 21 people shot dead and 10 injured at Afghan wedding after gunfight breaks out

A shootout at a wedding party has left 21 people dead and another 10 wounded in Afghanistan.

Jaweed Basharat, spokesman for the governor of Baghlan province, said a gunfight broke out between two groups attending the wedding in Dih Salah district late Sunday

Most of the dead were wedding guests aged 14 to 60 years old, he said.

The police chief of Andarab province, Colonel Gulistan Qasani, said hostility between the two groups involved in the gunfight had been simmering for many years.

‘The clash broke out after a relative of a provincial police official was assassinated during the wedding party,’ Qasani said.

They need stricter gun controls, clearly. More gay pride parades and trans-gendered washrooms would help as well.

    • I am surprised the UN hasn’t mandated those measures.
