A senior Islamic State commander was among those arrested this morning during dawn anti-terror raids on more than 140 addresses in Istanbul.
Halis Bayancuk – believed to be the terror group’s most senior operative in the city – was seen being led away from a property in the Bagcilar district by plained clothed police officers.
The thick-bearded jihadi wore a blue dress shirt as he was led into a police station alongside his burqa-clad wife.
Investigators reportedly seized a number of ISIS-linked documents, both digital and non-digital.
The news comes as Turkish jets bombed ISIS positions inside Syria for the first time overnight in a dramatic escalation of fighting after the killing of a Turkish soldier in cross-border clashes.
