Trump as Rorschach Test

Fox News owes Donald Trump a bazillion dollars. He has single-handedly transformed their broadcast of the first Republican presidential debate on August 6 — normally a routine event almost a year and a half out from an election and of significant interest only to political junkies — into a coup de television equivalent to Caitlyn Jenner appearing nude on 60 Minutes. Who wouldn’t want to watch?

Trump has become a kind of Rorschach test for all of us. He certainly has for me. I end up changing my opinion of him about every twenty minutes.

What about Caitlan Jenner moderating the Republican debate … in the nude?

    Ratings BONANZA!

    • Now that’s Appointment Television!

        Jenner nude?
Somehow just a smidge above the eye bleach whale that is Elizabeth May.

    • Linda1000

Oh, barf. You mean Bruce Jenner, right?

      • Clausewitz

I think they still call him “Dicky” Jenner.

Nice little article. Trump is a caricature of a person, larger than life, and so tends to be someone people feel strongly about, one way or the other: It’s hard to be neutral about him. Like him or hate him, he stands in stark contrast to many of this mild-eyed, hollow-men colleagues in the Republican Party.

    • So far no one stands out in either party. Save for Trump and Hillary.

Honestly, if anyone here has ever run a long distance race like the 1500m or the 3000m you have to know that Trump is the Rabbit.

        • Drunk_by_Noon

It’s hard to tell at this point.

          • dance…dancetotheradio

An intriguing thing I read is that drilling down into Trump’s support a larger proportion come from the centre than the right.

          • AmicusC

It’s almost like they have been left too long and the average American is more right wing than left. Any misconceptions about that are explained by news centres been on each coast surrounded by idiots in their echo chambers

          • That is interesting, they are the group ignored by both parties.

          • Drunk_by_Noon

            That’s even more delicious!
            Thanks for the info.
            It cheered me up.

        • WalterBannon

how many billions have you earned?

          • dance…dancetotheradio

That’s not the point and you know it.
They always anoint a front runner in the early days and he flames out in the end when people get semi-serious about their primary votes.
In a 1500m race some goof always takes the lead in the first two laps and is chased down at the end by the winner.
            That’s the way it works.

          • WalterBannon

            Trump is no rabbit.

You don’t start from rich, get much richer, make a risky business venture, almost go bankrupt and then come back to have his high net worth and be some kind of light weight flash in the pan.

And you underestimate his mass appeal in the voter booth, outside the media-political junky circles. He is an outsider, a guy with an issue, and a Rob Ford. See you at the inauguration.

          • dance…dancetotheradio

            How’s this then:
If Breitbart was right about politics being downstream from the culture than Trump has been shrewd with the Apprentice for the past ten years in terms of brand recognition.
Last time around though, Gingrich got a little feisty calling out the media and he didn’t make the final cut.
            So, I’m saying, we’ll see.

          • Minicapt

Bankruptcy is part of the Trump business plan. As well as ensuring losses are other people’s money.

Hillary and Huma in 2016 … now that’s depressing because America will sink.

        • dance…dancetotheradio

Odds on Hillary installing Huma as the first lesbian lady if she gets elected?

          • Linda1000

No, not even Washington would allow that to happen. The Clintons are owned by the Saudis so Hillary can never divorce Bill. Huma will be a special advisor for the MB in the White House, like Valerie Jarrett.(sic?)

          • dance…dancetotheradio

Well, it’s not really going to happen anyway.
There will be neither a Clinton nor a Bush in the White House in 2016.

He has more baggage than United Airlines. It will catch up with him.

    • Drunk_by_Noon

Let he that is without baggage cast the first Samsonite

I am looking forward to at least six more months of Trump.

In a quite important way, Trump is actually doing valuable battlefield prep for conservative candidates like Cruz and Walker. Essentially he is saying the “unsayable”, catching the flak and moving to the next target. As he does the path is cleared for conservatives who would previously have been demonized as “far right”. The Donald has pushed back the borders which means that people who Sen. McCain and the rest of the RINOs would deride as right wing crazies are now, relative to Trump, the voice of rational conservatism.

    • Brett_McS

Gavin McInnes refers to him as a “snow plow”.

  • mauser 98

Trump should have avoided McCain war hero stuff
now his draft deferment record will be in headlines
    Trump will crash
