Obama’s age of nuclear chaos

On Tuesday we moved into a new nuclear age.

In the old nuclear age, the US-led West had a system for preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons. It had three components: sanctions, deterrence and military force. In recent years we have witnessed the successful deployment of all three.

In the aftermath of the 1991 Gulf War, the UN Security Council imposed a harsh sanctions regime on Iraq. One of its purposes was to prevent Iraq from developing nuclear weapons. After the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, we learned that the sanctions had been successful. Saddam largely abandoned his nuclear program due to sanctions pressure.

I always made the mistake of assuming all of the lefties, peace freaks, and Catholic pacifists movements were against nuclear proliferation, but in the end they only cared about constraining U.S. power.

Put a necktie around Zarif’s neck and see how tight you can pull it. Then have him tell us a good joke. If he starts to yell, have someone ready to give him a back-alley punch-up.
… then call him an Arab.

Next week, Defense Secretary Carter will be visiting Israel in another attempt to sell Israelis on the Iran deal. The Defense Ministry should demand that since Obama has deprived Israel of the ounce of prevention, nothing less than a pound of cure will be acceptable to buy Israel’s acquiescence.
