The Blitz In Colour

Now a series of colour photos have gone on display showing the full horror of the destruction caused by the Nazi bombings during what later became known as The Blitz.

The most popular tourist attraction in London has become the underground Cabinet War Rooms, even more so than the Tower or the Changing of the Guard. They were created to protect officials during the Blitz and provide security for communications. Although he had a bedroom prepared for him, Churchill spent no more than three nights there, preferring the risks of 10 Downing Street to show his solidarity with ordinary Londoners under attack.
