Government pays millions to Charleston massacre victims’ families

I have nothing but sympathy for these people. That should go without saying. But since when does the US Government pay you for being related to a victim of violent crime?

It’s a serious question. I’m asking. I’ve never heard of this.

(Even Snopes reluctantly concedes that this payment is a real thing.)

But how much did the government give the Fort Hood victims?

    • Nada.

What about payments for the families of all the white women raped and murdered by black men?

This kind of thing may be trending. A few weeks ago, the friend of a woman who was killed in Edmonton (I think — out west anyway) wanted to be financially compensated for her shock and emotional distress.

Oh, and I just read that the sister of the Charleston shooting cancelled her wedding and is on Facebook asking for funds to pay the cancellation costs that have been incurred.

Just remembered, Mark Knofler wrote a song about that. Must watch (Knopfler, Clapton, Sting and Collins, live!)

    • Great song.

Yes, I saw the thing about the shooter’s sister. I can only put it down to the notion that she’s in some kind of horrible shock and doesn’t know what the hell she’s doing. I guess that would be understandable. (Did Roof deliberately time his massacre to wreck his sister’s wedding? That seems possible.)

You’re being very generous. Crowd funding on the internet seems to be begging on the street corner for the digital age. A few years ago, I heard that a street corner beggar could make about $100 a day. What with inflation and the power of the ‘net, that seems like petty change today.

squeegee kids on a major arterial in Vancouver can clear better that 250 tax free on top of their welfare.

She cancelled it because it seemed tacky to be on the same day as the memorial also the shooter was not invited to his sisters wedding.

It’s just another way for Obama and gang to funnel money to “his” people.

They are getting the money from a fund for victims of crimes not something new. The DoJ may have places some phone calls to speed up that money but any victim and family can claim some money from the fund. It might not be the 3 million each but there is a formula.

When I was car jacked years ago in Edmonton, I got a letter from the government asking if I wanted any victim money. I think it was a couple hundred dollars but you had to go to mandatory counseling. The time off work for the sessions would have cost me more than the pay out so I said no thanks.

I’d seriously consider sending someone in my place who needed the money.

They have the same thing here in Canada.

I wonder if I could be paid for all the emotional distress my wife has caused me by those years of nagging and babbling? Maybe a class action suit – we could form two teams and fight it out once and for all.

Now you owe us a favor, capiche?

  • John

I believe the families of the Fort Hood victims have yet to receive compensation

  • Minicapt

Given the victims were black, these payments are reparations.

9/11 families were given billions. Some of it tax free. Also free college to some children.
