Fears of a Pan Am Games flop: Toronto faces empty hotel rooms, unsold tickets and angry locals

The mascot for the 2015 Pan Am Games, which open in Toronto next week, is a porcupine named Pachi. The porcupine seems an appropriate symbol. Many across greater Toronto have discovered that the Toronto 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games, like a porcupine, are an uncomfortable creature to embrace.

I notice the porkypine has rainbow quills down his back and no clothes as per the aged pervs in the pride parade

    • Yea a Gay Porkypine, what a great idea that was.

      • Gary

Glad you posted this because I had a topic for this Pan Am Scam .
For about 3 days now I have seen Wynne’s Liberals running their Ads for the Lottery Corp and how it supports our Pan Am athletes .
Except that it is the FRENCH version and every one of the females in the Ad are White , plus one is a ” Diversity” female Cop they show at the end in her uniform .

Great…. the OLG uses profits to hire “Diversity ” persons for the Police and then gives them more money to train for the Pan Am games when they should be getting those f’in guns and drugs out of Government housing along with going after the Somali/jamaican/latino/russian gangs.

We’re screwed , $1 billion a year for the Toronto Police budget and yet we have several $90,000.00 a year Cops as PR Poster persons at Parades and Multicultural festivals that dance and eat the food while Politicians show up for their Photo-OP pre-Election.

At the rate that Wynee is driving Ontario in the ground and spending money to buy election , she will push the debt to $400 billion and Mexico will see thousands of Canadians pouring in for jobs as Refugees FROM Canada.

I expect to see the full on cartoon gay porcupine suit wearing fool mobbed by irate yet strangely vibrant muslims with sharp knives. Gay and pork have no place in Shariah.

      • Shebel

I think that this is relevant. I just thought of it now. I had a young friend that was a bit simple and had a hard time with words.
He could Never say porkypine— It was beyond him-

        He called them —‘ Porkapricks’

      • dance…dancetotheradio

I think they should have used the likeness of Kanye West in his fish dicks phase.

    • Gary

Yah , Pachi is spanish for Bum-buddy which risks getting AIDS and you’re DOA at the Morgue.

      • Shebel

Isn’t that just most beautiful sight.
        GAG!
These perverts that are enjoying their freedom to the Max–
–disgust me. At some point- you will all be back in the closet.

      • warrenzoell

Yep! We’re supposed to accept this as normal. Equal in every way to our own cultures. And you better accept it or else.

      • ntt1

the dumb beast already has hospital admitting tags on both arms… must be terminal.

      • Brett_McS

I thought that was “maricon”, as in Ricky Maricon (told to me by my Argentinian Spanish teacher, getting on 18 years ago, who had a friend working in the hotel in Buenos Aires where RM would get rent boys sent to his room)

    • I am so regretful.

    • Mal

Having to deal with Toronto Council is just like screwing that porcupine. A hundred pricks against one.

  • ontario john

People are just being homophobic. Everyone needs instruction from Michael Coren.

    • ntt1

only if he throws in hair styling tips.

      • Shebel

WOW!~ The Catholic Paedophiles are about to unleash their wisdom re: homophobia.

        • ntt1

          WTF?

        • Drunk_by_Noon

Do you think saying things like that makes you look cool?
          Do ya feel edgy now?

If any of us were to start spouting anti-Jewish stereotypes, ‘super Jews’ like you would lose your shit.
It’s rude, and not true, so if you don’t like it said of you and yours, don’t say it about others.

          • Shebel

True. But others should not say stuff that pisses me off. . Maybe we are on a different trail. Forgetaboutit.

          • Drunk_by_Noon

If somebody here says something that pisses you off, or you think is just wrong, then engage THEM.
It’s just not productive to go after “Catholics” or whoever.
We are not each other’s enemy.

          • Shebel

Sometimes ,engaging people will not be productive.

          • El Martyachi

Why, what ever do you mean, kind sir?

          • Shebel

You already know what I mean.

          • El Martyachi
          • Drunk_by_Noon

But slurring all Catholics is EVER productive?

        • Justin St.Denis

Just wow. Like spreading urban myths and religious misinformation and stereotypes is cutting-edge.

        • Shebel

Ok— It just pisses me off when people insult you . Maybe I listened to you for too long.

  • Exile1981

I noticed a road kill porcupine on the highway into Calgary this morning.

  • Shebel

What are the Pan Am games ?

    • No one knows precisely.

      • Shebel

Why would any one want to host them ?

      • Reader

I suspect it is a program to fund Liberal party hacks.

        • David Murrell

One has to study the Obama-media-lobby financial relationships, to begin to fathom why Premier Wynne, the media and the lobbies like the Pan Am Games. It is all payola and pork-barreling, with the public getting stuck with the tab.

          • Ottawa Eyes

I think somebody here pointed out that the former president of the federal party has a wind power company that when McGuinty came to power and put in huge subsidies for wind and solar power was suddenly worth a fortune and then sold the company.

Why doesn’t the media look into these sorts of things?

With all the government red tape the only way to make a fortune in this country is to have political connections, and no longer by hard work that contributes to society.

          • Waffle

A lot of Bay Street lawyers were early participants.

It’s an event where those not good enough for the olympics can participate and get a participant ribbon.

    • warrenzoell

      It means
Panamanian American so I would assume it must have something to do with the Panamanian and North American countries who participate.

  • ontario john

I try avoiding going to the islamic republic of Toronto. However I will be there Saturday for the 195th Orange Parade, celebrating our English heritage. King Billy will be leading the parade again. For anyone interested, details are at: orangelodge.org See you there.

    • Send pics!

    • Shebel

I thought that the ‘Orange Walk’ was all gone. It is good to know that it is still alive. It was a fun time for me as a kid. It was always held in a bush.
‘King Billy’ was usually some really olde boy, that was drunk as a Lord , that somehow always managed to stay on his White horse. ‘

    • Clink9

We gots some oranges on our street. They hates the Catholics.

  • Mal

You Torontonians are such unenlightened hobbits. It’s YOUR fault that the games are a failure, not your far intellectually superior politician betters.

  • dance…dancetotheradio

I worked in a hotel during the 1999 Pan Am Games.
We were told by the organizing committee that this would be a bonanza for the hospitality industry.
    Well, it wasn’t.
Occupancy was way down during a peak season.
    The restaurant was way quieter.
And it shot a big hole in the banquets revenues because they had held back those three weekends from wedding bookings in anticipation of this imaginary windfall.
That the games made any money at all is on the backs of twenty thousand volunteer suckers and the hotel and restaurant industry.

    • According to the article that seems to be the norm.

  • Drunk_by_Noon

Are the Pan Am games supposed to be a big deal, or are they just a local thing?
I know the name is supposed to be Pan American, but I take that about as a serious as “World Series”.

    • No one serious competes as the World’s are just a short bit away.

    • dance…dancetotheradio

The Pan Am games used to be a big deal.
And it really is Pan American since all the countries in the Americas compete.
The 1967 games were opened by Prince Philip.
I grew up near the old Pan Am stadium in Winnipeg.
I used to run there when I was a kid and dream of winning the 1500 meter and 3000 meter races.
I could run a mile in under five minutes back then.
As for the World Series, I read somewhere once that it was originally sponsored by the World Bread Company.
And I can’t find anything online to back up that assertion.

      • canminuteman

I thought it was sponsored by a newspaper called the “world news”, or something.

        • dance…dancetotheradio

I just had the thought of the World Series being sponsored by the Weekly World News.
And then I thought of Bat Boy, first as a bat boy for a major league baseball team and then as the mascot for the Pan Am Games in Toronto.

    • Alain

I suggest they are as big of a deal as the “pride” parade if you follow me.

      • dance…dancetotheradio

        They’re valid games.
But, a track meet shouldn’t cost over two billion dollars.

  • simus1

A megarific floperoo should put paid to any hopes the usual rent seeking suspects hereabout have of turning this into the first step in their own personal run for the next (Olympic) pot of gold.

Legs with some form of adipose tissue that is intoxicating.
          And legs nice.
They were all attractive but I can’t explain Susanna Hoffs.
I only ever found her alluring.

          • Drunk_by_Noon

            Yep, she was a cutie!
Back in the day, I had a hard time deciding between which two of the Go-Go’s I would allow to mate with me. It turns out that was an unfounded concern.

          • Shebel

Did you really get to screw all them?
Not that I am envious-mind you-

          • Drunk_by_Noon

Well, to make a long story short… no!

However, it’s not like it was a completely insane impossibility as Belinda Carlisle’s younger brother was a friend of a friend of mine. She was, I think, 6 or 7 years older than me, but went to high school two towns over and the Go-Go’s played a lot of clubs in the San Fernando Valley, which, was right next door, well 15 minutes away via the 118 freeway.
So, it was mathematically possible at least.

Growing up when and wear I did was pretty cool because there was always somebody who knew somebody that could get you onto the guest list to see a lot of these bands right as they were breaking big, but before they became full-on stars.

The movie Poltergeist was filmed in my hometown so that was the kind of place I grew up in. I could have done worse.
Thanks dad for getting a sweet slice of that Cold War era aerospace pie!

I wonder whether the establishment media will be honest enough to report on the big traffic tie-ups, the empty seats, the expensive banquets, and so forth. Or will the media simply parrot Wynne’s propaganda?

    • I suspect the latter.

    • Shebel

It will all be a great success. Somebody rowing a boat from some country, rowed faster than somebody rowing a boat from somewhere else.
We are all supposed to be excited and Patriotic—and money is NO object because this is for the Glory of —-nobody really wants to take the credit -so we are left mystified as to the WHOM is the WINNER?

Sorry, but I just don’t see it. This is a porcupine?? You’ve got to be kidding. I see a drugged-out and or drunk pre-historic Furrie, something with fur instead of feathers or scales. Maybe a trannie? Also, I know there’s some deep symbolism associated with the tongue and the wrist bands, but I haven’t figured out what, as yet.

It’s an awful thing to say, but I hope that these Games are a colossal failure, as the early signs are telling us. Perhaps that will open people’s eyes and they’ll ‘storm the Bastille’ and throw out the Polyester Princess. With any luck, Messrs Miller and McGuinty should also be held accountable for their numerous crimes.
