FBI investigating attacks on San Francisco-area Internet cables

The string of attacks span a year, including one early Tuesday. FBI agents will not disclose specifics about the Tuesday attack, but said someone broke into an underground vault and cut three fiber-optics lines for Zayo Group Holdings and Level 3 Communications, Internet wholesalers. Microsoft also reported a slowdown in its Azure cloud computing service in the western U.S.

Have they started with the puppet shows yet?

Better fix that one quick. While I am thinking, 4 attacks on west jets in 5 days? IN CANADA?? Why are our enemies better at this than we are? All colleges should be turning out better techis than this. I saw it in a graduating ceremony a few years ago, they had lots of English majors, now barristas, not enough of Contra terrorists. They are not thinking enough. Forget collage diploma. Get all these young guysWHO KNOW and pay them BIG BUCKS. NOW Hire them, they are so smart, they are our army. Geez, how crazy am I that I have to tell the OPP, RCMP, CSIS or any of them. : You don’t have to wait, these brilliant kids are there in every school, get them, their parent will sign a waiver, some of us know this is war. You need the best ones and we can’t wait for them to come of age. Put them to work. Hire some of them in summer school they so tech savvy, tell them the truth about the enemy and set them to work. I bet every kid you pick will have a teacher who will agree. Western Civilization does not have a lot of time to waste. Do it.

… if Team Good Guys are ever looking for a no-strings digital Contra terrorist freedom fighter my erhm, friend, is available at competitive rates.

I am sure there are a lot of old union guys there who do not think it important that a sniper hit it in April 2013. I do. It is ripe for attack. Geez 2 years, no change. FIX it. If this grid goes out, imagine, or can you. In my life 9/11 meant OUR whole world changed. Do you have your 72 hours package ready? Or will you be running around like chicken head cut off not having a flashlight or candles and be begging a candle for10 dollars from your local store? Get it ready, be prepared, i was a girl scout.so I have enough for my neighbours. Food water, cash. One time it happened to me and I was the only one allowed into the store, with cash. Prepare.

    They’re fibre optic cables.
    And four times redundant.
A cut in one just means that the ring has to route traffic the other way.
A double cut means the switch flips to the backup ring.
That ring is run somewhere else.
Fibre networks are secure because they have to be.
You can’t guard the many miles of fibre so you have to design them for failures.
Microsoft reporting a slowdown in its cloud computing service is also misleading.
A fibre ring will use the shortest transmission path.
If you cut it and it has to use the longer path you are talking about the speed of light travelling a few extra miles.
Communication will slow down by a few hundred microseconds each way.

… is that an optical time domain reflectometer in your pocket or are you just happy to see … the chick in the pic of the night thread..

Can I have an OTDR and be happy to see you as well?
Aw…Jeezy Creezy, I have to terminate a fibre run next week.
        I haven’t touched a splicer in over a year.
Well, we should have some slack.
I can screw up once or twice.
It’s gotta be better than reel testing.

        • El Martyachi

Sure we’re all about flippin bitwise operators here at BCF. Good luck on the splice.

          • dance…dancetotheradio

            BCF in decimal is 3023.

Why did that guy, one of the best actors, who I first saw in an episode of Miami Vice have to play che?

Think Murder She Wrote with an Englishman as the lead.
With all the glory of eighties television production values.
