Dearborn Muslim stands trial for Irish soldier murders

A former Dearborn resident appeared today in court in Beirut and is facing trial in the murder two United Nations peacekeepers with the Irish Army in 1980, according to Irish media outlets.

According to a report in today’s Irish Examiner, Mahmoud Bazzi “has gone on trial in Lebanon.” The Independent in Ireland also reported that he appeared before a military court.

In January, Bazzi, 72, was deported to Lebanon, where he was then arrested. Last year, a judge in Detroit ordered him to be deported because he had entered the U.S. on a fake passport.
