Avengers actor A superb actor RIP One of my all-time favorite programs. Head and shoulders above American crime dramas

Ah! Steed and Mrs. Peel! The memories are fantastic. I own the DVD box set of the Emma Peel period of shows. Diana Rigg was an obsession of mine. But Steed was something else altogether! The very essence of popular British elegance and cool! Debonair to a fault, John Steed is etched into my very soul. And Macnee was perfect for the part. The traditional Bowler will be lost without him. R.I.P.

    • Hard to argue against Peel.

Al Bundy’s favourite too especially when she was kicking really high while wearing leather pants!

        • I saw her play Medea once, when I was young and innocent and had no idea who she was.

I just thought I’d mention that to try and sound interesting.

That is interesting. I’d give my eye teeth to be able to say the same thing. How was her performance? Do you recall?

          • Not in any detail. I was probably in my mid-teens, and I hadn’t read the play or anything. I seem to recall her being an impressive presence. I remembered that I had seen her even though I only knew that she’d been a star in the ’60s or something, so that probably means she was good.

All my stupid buddies at work think The Avengers are a bunch of super heroes.
      They think I’m old.
      I think they’re children.

Diana Rigg is still going strong in a meaty role on Game of Thrones , long before Star Treks 7 of 9, Ms Rigg was rocking the original cat suit and assisting many young boys into entering full on puberty. Great show and a lot of fun.

She also starred in a really good period murder series on British TV about 20 years ago. I watched it on satellite back in the day.

  • Tom Forsythe

I remember being very disappointed as a young boy when I saw “The Avengers” in the TV Guide, and it turned out not to be the Marvel version.
