Migrant crisis ‘at new high’ across Channel

Aid agencies have warned that the problem of migrants camping out in Calais before trying to reach Britain has risen to a level of crisis not seen before.

Their numbers in the French port have swollen from around 1,000 in April to 3,000 this month and it is predicted up to 4,000 more will arrive in the coming weeks.

Aid workers warn that some of the sprawling makeshift campsites, known locally as the Jungle, have become so large as to be untenable.

Dozens of migrants have occupied derelict barns and erected tarpaulin-covered wood structures big enough for families, as many wait to try their luck at hiding on lorries to Dover.

Hmmmmm. I wonder if humans have discovered a way to stop or discourage this practice.

Enfilading machine gun fire? Area denial by artillery barrage?

You might be on to something.

Route truck engine exhaust through the cargo space.

Cheapest and most effective method. And environmentally friendly, traps all those greenhouse gases too.

Build a wall around them and let them rot inside.

Australians have. They want to be fair to legitimate migrants.

Sooner or later it will get to the point where people won’t tolerate this any more. Civil unrest is certainly coming.

    • There are no jobs for them, let alone houses and other means. They will only duplicate the mistakes that made their former homelands such messes.

Why don’t Europeans focus their energies on LEGITIMATE immigrants who actually want to be there, will work hard and won’t shoot up delis?

There are no jobs for them, let alone houses and other means.

Indeed. But these invaders seem to think they are entitled to live in Europe. If the boats were towed back to Africa immediately the smugglers would go out of business and the boats would stop coming. It is madness to let them stay in Europe.

  • There are plenty of homes for them back where they came from.

Don’t seem to be many strong swimmers among them. It’s only 21 miles or so.

      Parasites don’t need to swim.

No, they can live off their host and suck it dry.
