Global cost of war reaches $14 trillion, says report

More than $14 trillion (£8.9 trillion) was spent on international conflicts in the past year, according to a report by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), which found that Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan were responsible for a surge in war deaths.

The spending represents 13% of global GDP and is roughly the combined value of the economies of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Canada, Spain and Brazil.

Steve Killelea, IEP Chief Executive, said reducing conflict was one way to help the world’s economic recovery.

The global cost of Islam is not sustainable.
Instead of the Pope telling us to all skip heated showers and ride a bike to work, just how much environmental harm and misery could be avoided if there were no Muslims?
Until he has the courage to say that one thing, I won’t care about anything else he says.

    • The pope has revealed himself to be a fool. He is the Obama in the Vatican.

  • Just that figure alone – $14 trillion (13 percent of global GDP!) spent fighting Islamic insurgents in one year – is reason enough to justify bombing Islam out of existence immediately. And this amount does not include all the moneys and time wasted on security in airports and local and international governmental agencies worldwide. And think of all the good that could have been done with all that cash and personnel. Truly, Islam is the plague of the 21st century.

Personally, my life is poisoned day after day by the existence of this Islamic plague and the continuing failure of our leadership to respond to it firmly and decisively. I actually have nightmares about it. I am sure I am not alone – many people across the world must be feeling the same. Such emotional effects are also to be added to the financial ones, for they surely affect productivity and happiness.

  • Just imagine a world without Islam.

I’ll be willing to bet the cost of war would be reduced dramatically.

The global war on terror is not sustainable and is very telling about what Cheney said prior to Bush leaving office. He said that debts don’t matter and that is why Obama was given a 2 trillion dollar deficit with wars on a credit card and his Health Care part D and tax cuts which did nothing and deregulation which caused the financial crisis. Seriously, 14 trillion is a substantial amount of money and they continue! These wars have nothing to do with democracy or improving anything.
