British artist’s statue of ‘a queen’s sex organs’ put on display in the Versailles Palace gardens sparks anger in France

A giant sculpture of ‘a queen’s private parts’ has sparked fury as it goes on display in the famous gardens of Versailles Palace.

Following on from the controversy of Paul McCarthy’s ‘butt-plug’ sculpture in Paris, which was vandalised last year, comes artist Anish Kapoor’s Dirty Corner monument.

The 60-metre long rusty metal funnel, surrounded by rocks, sits across from the stunning 17th century palace which was once home to the last French king, Louis XVI.

British contemporary sculptor Kapoor claims the impressive structure represents ‘a queen’s vagina’ taking power…

  • Wait- how is that art?

    • That very question is art!

      • Cubist art.

        • Frances

          Can’t be cubist: too rounded.

          • Justin St.Denis

Angularish Art? Curvest art? Maybe the whole “art” reference should be dropped, for both convenience and reality’s sake.

          • Hhhmmm… Dadaist, maybe?

      • Justin St.Denis

Artfully asked questions usually are. 😉

  • Minicapt

If it’s not sh!t, then it cannot be modern art. More evidence that flogging ‘art curators’ would be educational and a public benefit.

I’m afraid many of them would enjoy it.

      • Minicapt

Charge them double, and sell tickets.

      • Justin St.Denis

        Good point!

  • andycanuck

    What a silly bunt.

  • Jan Morrissy

I’m an artist and this sort of crap is not any ‘art’ I could ever relate to.
    Yucky and gross.

  • Nuke France. It’s always a pretty good idea.

  • ntt1

to the creatively bankrupt , being rude and profane is the only way left to gain notoriety. Even negative inputs are better than the total silent rejection this asshole deserves, and what of the uncaring French that allow a beautiful view scape to be vandalized by junk.

    • Clausewitz

This is also why comedy these days sucks so hard.

      • Justin St.Denis

Where is there comedy these days? I’ve been looking…

  • Alain

Kapoor with such a British name shows such courage, so I wonder would he have the courage to do a s statue of Mohammed’s arse?

    • ntt1

maybe that’s what it was originally called, but after Charlie Hebdo can you blame him for backing off?

  • bob e

nothing like beating a dead horse with this phony anti anti everything line of reasoning.
this ‘whatever’ is stupid & insulting ..

  • Helios Megistos

A bas la republique maconnique! Dieu et le Roi!

Kapoor should be stuffed into this “thing” with a hydraulic ram, head first.

  • Rosenmops

Rusty scrap metal and rocks. Looks like some sort of abandoned mining site. These so-called artists are lunatics.

Our city council sends a truck round every week to collect art.
