WTF!?! Toronto Star Says Use Of “Voodoo” As In “Voodoo Economics” Is Racist

Is ‘voodoo economics’ a derogatory, racist term?: Public Editor

In considering all of this, the co-chairs of the newsroom style committee, the arbitrator of language and usage in the Star, have concluded that “voodoo economics” is a term best avoided in the Star in future. I agree that aiming to avoid its use is the right course now that we have been made aware that it causes offence.

When did Voodoo become a race?

    That’s so gay.

    • Don’t these wonks have anything else to do?

  • Uncle_Waspy

This means “Mexican Radio” by Wall of Voodoo must now be exponentially racist! Can we still say “in the black”, meaning profitable…..because it’s a positive thing? Or is that still considered racist?

    • dance…dancetotheradio

In the black must now necessarily mean that you’ve gotten your profits by exploiting black people.
And in the red implies that aboriginals are culturally inferior.
Mexican Radio is a great song.
Not sure if I’d try barbecued iguana.

      • Uncle_Waspy

Ha…I totally forgot about the barbequed iguana! Pancho sitting in the dirt with his big sombrero slowly turning the spit over the campfire. That would be considered hate speech if it had been made today. Bullfighting, sombreros, tequila, piñatas, refried beans, iguanas — yup, they covered pretty much all the cultural clichés in that video.

Forget the hearse cuz I’ll never die!

The Star must be really hurting for attention now. It can’t be too long before this paper is flushed down the toilet for good.

  • tom_billesley

Islam, Voodoo …. it’s difficult to keep track of all these races.

  • Mal

I expect nothing less from the staff of the Red Star; all of them having nursed on the socialist pus that leaked out of Joseph Atkinson.
Watching that filthy rag wither is a rare pleasure these days.

We’re way beyond the tipping point of PC in speech and writing. Emoticons are just the first sign of the hieroglyphs that are coming fast.

    • Emoticons have been banned in some instances as well.

Canada used the F-101 Voodoo fighter jet in the sixties. I feel so awful and racist I should probably hand in my citizenship at the nearest government depot.

  • Palidor

It must be hard to constantly have to find new words to feed the outrage.

  • ontario john

When will cultural genocide by white imperialists ever stop. I expect Wynne to lobby the federal government to set up a three year commission or inquiry into the hardship of voodoo priests in Canada. This should be followed by compensation. After all, the united church observer awhile back had a story on the benefits of voodoo. Forget that silly Christian stuff. Maybe the CBC and the Star can have a documentary on the atrocity.

  • Alain

Brought to you by the “paper” that gives you Voodoo news.

All GeForce video cards are based on the Voodoo series.
If you’re not running AMD, your computer is raciss.

This is crazy. I mean really, really, batsh*t crazy.

  • William Guillaume

The TDSB is definitely a voodoo cult.

Red Star and Grope&Flail Voodoo journalists are the worst possible examples of politically correct zombies..
