Slaves Forced to Run Marathon Shoeless in Qatar

In Qatar, where at least one immigrant worker dies per day working to complete its World Cup infrastructure by 2022, workers were bused in to run a marathon in whatever clothes they had in order to break a Guinness World Record.

In an effort to break a Guinness World Record, a Qatari sports club reportedly bused in migrant workers and forced them to run in a state-sponsored “megamarathon” in Doha last Friday.

    ‘According to the race’s official site, the marathon was created to illustrate a “decisive response to the campaign waged by the sector of envious haters on the success of Qatar to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and to their false allegations of persecution of workers and residents in our beloved country.”’

    Because nothing says ‘We treat our workers properly!’ like forcing them to run a marathon.

    Assholes on top of assholes.
    Stay classy, Qatar!

      They seem to be unclear on certain concepts.
      Hell, they should have sent them off to pick cotton as a demonstration of “worker solidarity”.

      I once, over beers, joked about whether middle eastern oil could still be extracted safely after, say, a large nuclear strike throughout the region. A Syrian scientist immediately deadpan answered that it’d be fine.

    And Ellin Bessner is the journalist that was on the SUN TV show with Ezra and told him that Harper isn’t doing enough to bail-out the Egyptian in jail with a Canadian passport that worked for the Qatar Government via Al Jazeera .

    Don’t pat yourself on the back to much. 902 Canadians died in industrial accidents last year. That’s about 3 day (minus weekends)

      Wow didn’t think it was that high.

    Wonder if the shoeless slave runners burned their feet on the hot pavement. Does Sheika Mouza care about her slaves in Qatar or only the slaves who are muslims.

      Hmm.. probably keeps em moving. I wonder if this could increase productivity in 3rd world sweatshops too? {applies for government grant}

        Nike has the sweatshop market covered. Of course, women are in the lower paying jobs in the factories. Nike’s bright neon cleats look strange but the kids like them.

          It’s a travesty. I’d much rather have western women making my cheap shoes in oppressive sweatshops. In fact, I’d pay at least 10% more for that.
