America Deals A Heavy Blow to FIFA

Doubtless, there will be some soccer fans who, this morning, are grimacing at the news that fourteen top officials of FIFA, the sport’s world governing body, have been indicted on corruption charges brought against them by, of all countries, the United States. I am not one of them.

Americans are widely mocked for referring to the game that everyone else calls football as “sawker.” But that cultural anomaly aside, it is thanks to American efforts that soccer, dogged for years by allegations of corruption and bribery, just may be on the cusp of recovering its integrity.

Team America. World Police. You will respect my authoritah!
They should clean up their own back yard before poking their noses in everyone else’s.
The game is a load of crap anyway. The proper Football World Cup is this year in England.

    • Norman_In_New_York

The investigation began when an American official of FIFA was caught cheating on his taxes and agreed to finger the other FIFA directors in exchange for leniency.

    • ellake

Perhaps to you socer is a load of crap, for majority of people it is The Game.
As for FIFA everybody knew that the people in the top are corrupt but there was no will to get and do something about it.
Majority of socer fans are thankfull that somebody started to do something about it.

      • no4

I made up my mind that soccer is a load of crap when an Everton fan smashed a bottle over my fathers head outside Wembley in 1984.

Being the moral anchor to western civ is a thankless job.

      • no4

        ha ha, good one

        • Drunk_by_Noon

          BillyBob?
          Is that you?

          • no4

            No it is not.
Try to imagine the Russians ordering the arrest of the board of NASCAR, and extraditing them to Moscow. Then you might begin to understand.

          • Clink9

Isn’t FIFA an international crime ring and NASCAR just operates in the U.S. ?

          • Clink9

William Robert is an admitted Italian and probably a rabid soccer fan.

  • Xavier

Soccer is the game of the future, and it always will be.

    • El Martyachi

      .. a dim future.

    • no4

It’s a game for over paid prima donnas who act like they have been shot when they get tackled.

      • El Martyachi

It requires no equipment or infrastructure beyond a ball and field so he could indeed be correct. And to think it could’ve been jetpack jousting.

      • Clink9

So painful to watch those fags rolling around. My hundred pound daughters have been hurt much worse skiing and don’t even tell me about it.

I tried watching the World Cup a few years ago to give it a shot but felt like puking or kicking in my TV seeing the wimps put on their show.

    • Oh my God! Says who? And who cares?

    • Dana Garcia

You mean the game of the third world because it requires only a ball and some flat space? Mexico is crazy for it — all you need to know.

    • Blacksmith

That’s funny right there, I don’t care who you are……

  • Hard Little Machine

Kind of like that whole UN oil for food program where Kofi Anan’s kids stole hundreds of millions of dollars keeping Saddam Hussein in power.

  • Norman_In_New_York

Give credit where credit is due, to the new attorney general Loretta Lynch. She pursued the investigation as the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York (Brooklyn and Long Island).

Also, the New York Post reports that FIFA made a $100,000 donation to the Clinton Foundation during the selection period for the 2018 and2022 World Cups. Clinton wanted it here, but Qatar out-bribed him.

  • David

“sawker” is so vital to the well-being of the world.

  • El Martyachi

    {resists the urge to make a “soccer is so gay” joke based solely on the headline}

  • Clink9

Just a distraction from the scumbaggery happening in Washington.

    Oh, look at them!

  • no4

They obviously think it is more important to police the streets of Zurich than the streets of Baltimore.
Will the FBI demand that sawker is played in four quarters, with bigger goals, and three referees from now on, in return for a plea bargain?

    • Drunk_by_Noon

You forgot to add: “but what about your Negros”?

      • no4

No, I forget to add “What about all the corrupt regimes the USA continue to / have supported?”, what about guns to Islamist terror groups, and I could go on and on about corrupt Wall Street Banksters who just happened to shaft the world’s economy, etc, etc, etc.

    • El Martyachi

      … hopefully.

  • Dana Garcia

This investigation is a total waste of time UNLESS significant dirt on the Clintons can be dug up. But that’s a lot to hope for.

    • Norman_In_New_York

See above. FIFA did make a $100k contribution to the Clinton Foundation during venue selection time.

      • Dana Garcia

I know that. $100k is pocket change to the Clintons and big media is still snoozing.

  • tom_billesley

Not while Sepp Blatter is still there.

  • Brett_McS

It’s because they rebuffed Kerry’s and Holder’s presentation and gave the 2022 World Cup to Qatar instead of the US. Still, it needs doing!
