The UMP mayor of Venelles (Bouches-du-Rhône) declared on Twitter, on Thursday, Ascension Day: “We must ban the Muslim religion in France.”
He then urged Nicolas Sarkozy to take the same position.
Within the UMP party, they immediately commented that Robert Chardon was very ill and was therefore not responsible for his seriously Islamophobic remark.
But he calmly repeated it to journalists, pointing out that it was his cancer that opened his eyes. “I abolish the law of 1905** and proclaim that the Republic must favor the practice of the Christian faith,” he added…
