US: Duke prof tells the truth about (some) blacks; thought police fire back

Remember how I said a few days ago about how if there was one good thing to come out of the troubles in Baltimore, New York, Ferguson, and Charleston, it’s that it has emboldened the I’m-Not-Racist crowd to let their true feelings be known? Well, enter Duke University poli-sci professor Jerry Hough.

Earlier in the week, Hough posted a comment on the New York Times story, “How Racism Doomed Baltimore,” a post that he acknowledged making in an email to me.

Here’s Hough’s comment:

This editorial is what is wrong. The Democrats are an alliance of Westchester and Harlem, of Montgomery County and intercity Baltimore. Westchester and Montgomery get a Citigroup asset stimulus policy that triples the market. The blacks get a decline in wages after inflation.

But the blacks get symbolic recognition in an utterly incompetent mayor who handled this so badly from beginning to end that her resignation would be demanded if she were white. The blacks get awful editorials like this that tell them to feel sorry for themselves.

In 1965 the Asians were discriminated against as least as badly as blacks. That was reflected in the word “colored.” The racism against what even Eleanor Roosevelt called the yellow races was at least as bad.

So where are the editorials that say racism doomed the Asian-Americans. They didn’t feel sorry for themselves, but worked doubly hard.

I am a professor at Duke University. Every Asian student has a very simple old American first name that symbolizes their desire for integration. Virtually every black has a strange new name that symbolizes their lack of desire for integration. The amount of Asian-white dating is enormous and so surely will be the intermarriage. Black-white dating is almost non-existemt because of the ostracism by blacks of anyone who dates a white.

It was appropriate that a Chinese design won the competition for the Martin Luther King state. King helped them overcome. The blacks followed Malcolm X.

But now there is a huge outcry.

In a six-paragraph comment on the Times website, political science professor Jerry Hough wrote: “The blacks get awful editorials like this that tell them to feel sorry for themselves.”

Hough did not agree to be interviewed, but late Friday he said in an email that his comments were misunderstood. He had been prompted to write about a May 9 editorial in the New York Times on the Baltimore riots and underlying factors of segregation and poverty. He said the editorial should have called for the mayor of Baltimore to resign, instead of blaming white racism…

…Duke spokesman Michael Schoenfeld distanced the university from the professor’s New York Times comments but also pointed out academic freedom provisions in Duke’s Faculty Handbook.

“The comments were noxious, offensive and have no place in civil discourse,” Schoenfeld wrote in an email. “Duke University has a deeply-held commitment to inclusiveness grounded in respect for all, and we encourage our community to speak out when they feel that those ideals are challenged or undermined, as they were in this case”…

I wonder how the comment made it past NYT’s vetting: every single comment is checked. I suspect they left it in just to provoke this response.  (I am not even sure it is still there — but I am not going through the 500 comments to check).

The professor found out the hard way: You can’t go against The Narrative. Black failure is the result of institutional white racism – end of discussion. The fact that Asians and East Indians and Ashkenazi Jews thrive in this same über racist environment, well that just slices through the previous argument like a hot knife through butter.

    Mark Twain:
All great truths enter three phases. The first phase is ridicule. In the second phase, the truth is violently opposed. Then, the truth is accepted as self-evident.

      Very well said.

        Thanks EG!

  • Everyone needs a scapegoat and a soft target.

Anyone who is candid about race relations is that target. Anyone could be that target. The left must make an example.

I’ll stick to talking about blacks I like and admire: Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Nat King Cole, etc. [This is a rather long list, and doesn’t include modern blacks who riot in the streets.]

      • What’s not to admire?

      • dance…dancetotheradio

As long as Harry Belafonte is not on that list.
        Or Morgan Freeman.
        Or Morgan Freeman.

Former poet laureate Sir Andrew Motion has decided that the UK is too “suffocating” for him and is moving to … Baltimore.

Look at how the Carribean community had Dudley Laws fire-up his crowd of Blat Yutes ( sic) to go riot and loot on Yonge st over the Rodney King case and had these Blacks believing that Canada was racist and they suffered 400 years of slavery whiel still being oppressed to have unemployed Blat Yutes and Blat women on welfare in poverty .

Yes folks, just ignore that prior to 1980 the people in the Carribean linked to the British found out that they could move to Canada as a British Subject for all the Social benefits and not get a Visa or be an Immigrant to wait 5 years and be fully employed.

Oh , did Trudeau not tell people that when he wanted break away from the Queen and force non-whites and all British Subjects to apply as Immigrants for a landed Status when he Wrote his Constitution ????
No , he left that part out???
No shock though , he relied on the Immigrant Point system that many non-whites couldn’t meet . The next step though was to drive up the debt and lower the Immigration standards as Obama is doing to buy votes.
It was the sponsorship plans and refugee claims that helped people bring in a sick relative on Vacation and then harbour them so they can make a refugee claim later and get Welfare and full Dental care.
Mel Lastmen was attacked for his exposure to the welfare fraud when Immigrants brought in a relative to sponsor but once in they were dumped on Social services and costing about $80,000,000.00 a year to the taxpayers.

Toronto now claims that there are 200,000 illegals entitled to welfare
and health care , not all cultures are equal. Guns and gangs won’t go away soon because in one year we had 15,000 Mexican’s pour into Canada as ” Tourists” that made a refugee claims once here and some are now pumping out babies in Gov hosing while the MS-13 latino gangs are now here to stay and will get worse because they Vote .

Schools are warehouses for the babies pumped out by unwed mothers attracted to dead beat morons and still bed them because other people will pay for the housing and welfare cheques.

Duke University? Now where have I heard about them before?
Leftists never admit the narrative is dead.

  • Martin B

“Duke University has a deeply-held commitment to inclusiveness…”

The only commitment here is a commitment to exclude everyone who won’t blindly follow the Narrative like lemmings going over the cliff.

  • Mike Williams

Thomas Sowell and Walt Williams (both have PHDs in Economics) have written and said almost the exact same thing and “crickets”. Of course they are both black Americans so the left (and their employers) can’t do or say diddly about it.

  • Maggat

“Duke spokesman Michael Schoenfeld”. What this gentleman either does not know or chooses to ignore is the simple fact that respect has to be EARNED. Asians practice this concept, blacks, in the main, do not.

  • Linda1000

The Prof (Hough) is right about highly successful Asian students. Same in Canada and they are very ambitious.
