North Korea executes defense chief with an anti-aircraft gun: South Korea agency

North Korea executed its defense chief by putting him in front of an anti-aircraft gun at a firing range, Seoul’s National Intelligence Service told lawmakers, which would be the latest in a series of high-level purges since Kim Jong Un took charge.

Hyon Yong Chol, who headed the isolated nuclear-capable country’s military, was charged with treason, including disobeying Kim and falling asleep during an event at which North Korea’s young leader was present, according to South Korean lawmakers briefed in a closed-door meeting with the spy agency on Wednesday.

His execution was watched by hundreds of people, according to NIS intelligence shared with lawmakers.

It was not clear how the NIS obtained the information and it is not possible to independently verify such reports from within secretive North Korea.

    He died quickly.

    • One can hope.

When it does happen they’ll wipe out his entire family.

    • But who replaces him?

If his generals are reasonable, North Korea will be dismantled and the economic burden of fixing North Korea will fall on South Korean shoulders.

Thirty years ago no one thought that East and West Germany would be reunited, the same will happen with North Korea. I doubt Kim Jong-UN will live to see his 40th birthday.

        • According to some estimates, the cost of bringing North Korea up to economic scratch is $500 billion:

This is why South Koreans drag their feet when it comes to reunification with the north (and some other things, too). The default answer to the crisis on the Korean Peninsula is reunification but will that happen given the economic and political nature of the two countries? Could North Korea be dependent of South Korea and China and still be a liberal democracy?

What should happen is Kim Jong-Un being fed to the sharks on live TV.

How much has it cost both the U.S. and South Korean governments to maintain the Military Demarcation Line since 1953?

          • I think it is a cost South Koreans would bear because not many of them want reunification. They believe it will be too expensive.

I think South Korea is going to have to deal with this sooner rather than later. There will be a humanitarian or military crisis that breaks out. Even if Obama weren’t so bloody evil and useless, the US would still withdraw leaving South Korea to deal with Chinese-backed North Korea. North Korea will either reunite with South Korea or it will be its own nation. The Koreans have to ask themselves if they want the cost of stabilising the north or more war.

Can we expect a picture of her sitting in the seat of an ack-ack gun?

    • I’m sure she will.

While these purges are feelgood stories, I doubt if anything will change in the end.

Were Hyon Yong Chol’s wounds –shot by an anti-aircraft gun — fatal?

When they assemble all the pieces they’ll find out.

It’s all go in North Korea, definitely not a good idea to fall asleep and missing anything, like one’s own life!

The faster the country implodes into Medieval cannibalism and unlimited genocidal violence, the better. We need to help them scrape off the entire human population of the DPRK and start over with humans this time.

You can add this execution to others that have included, among other nasty ways to die, being tied to a stake and and having motor bombs fired at you, and being draped over the muzzle of a cannon.

    No half measures in NK!!

Jesus boys, a bullet to the back of the neck not good enough for ya?

In other news, it was reported to-day that Kim Jong-un has been assassinated. While attending the North Korean production of Phantom of the Opera, Kim stopped the show midway through the production and announced that he would immediately take over the lead and would become the Phantom. Those in attendance stood and cheered loudly at this tremendous news. As Kim strode onto the stage to take over the main role he tripped on the gondola, fell face first into the canal. Unable to clamber out Kim called for help. The army generals rushed to the canal. The show was held up for some 15 minutes as the army generals in attendance held him face down.

    More news at eleven……
