The USSR Didn’t Save the World from Hitler, It Allied with Hitler

Ishaan Tharoor is an embarrassment to the Washington Post and he continues his proud tradition of spewing nonsense with some historical WW2 revisionism.

For once it’s not about how the Nazis were the good guys, it’s about how their allies, the Communists, were the good guys.

Putin is putting on a big VE celebration, but is ignoring the fact that Russia was an active ally of Hitler and would have remained so if Hitler hadn’t betrayed him. Interesting how the only leaders attending his celebrations are the commie Chinese president and of course Castro. The communist Chinese and the Soviet Union killed off at least as many people as Hitler. And we have the sad spectacle of Castro visiting the Pope.

And all the communists in the west were “anti war” until Hitler invaded Russia, then they became fervent anti Nazis. It is not a myth that communism in the west was controlled by Moscow. It was controlled by Moscow from the time of the Russian Revolution until the Greenham Common “peace camps” of the ’80’s and probably beyond.

        Spot on.

Bingo. Stalin did not break the alliance with Hitler, Hitler broke it. Otherwise the alliance would have continued.

    • Kim Jong-Un decided to duck out.

WWII was largely a land grab and dispute between the two socialist powers in Europe. We got dragged into it because of treaties. While the outcome was laudable in some cases, it did cement the fate of millions of people living under Stalin and his larva.

Eisenhower could have changed everything if he had okayed the Ninth Army’s advance beyond the Elbe to Berlin when it had an open road and negligible resistance. It is safe to say that millions of Germans would have happily surrendered to us without a shot rather than face Russian retribution.

    • Indeed.

National Socialists have trouble getting along with International Socialists.

Unfortunately, both losing wasn’t the outcome that we got.

  • Stalin was called the devil and for good reason.

Stalin made a pact with Hitler, divided up Poland, killed its intelligentsia and enjoyed a short, peaceful relationship with his mirror image (SEE: Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact). Putin, like others before him, would rather this never discussed again. It’s time to take up billboard space.

The former Soviet Union relied on Allied aid- and silence- to survive.

Molotov threatened another pact with Hitler if a second front wasn’t opened up. A hastily made plan was concocted. That was Dieppe.

Stalin permitted sexual violence against Balkan, Korean and German women, calling these victims “trifles”.

Sorry to let facts get in the way of Ishaan Duranty’s narrative there.

I can’t add anything to the correct posts below. Try living with a wife who was born, raised , schooled and worked until the inevitable collapse of the soviet empire. The Soviet history of WW2 was so ingrained into the minds of the population it will remain ingrained, probably forever.I watched the May 9th parade and speeches with my wife and it was a truly spectacular show.
However, I lost if when Putin said to his adoring audience, “Thanks to the US and the allies for their help in defeating the nazis”
Putin, where were your Russians prior to June 1941? Up Hitler’s ass that’s where.
