Bombs found in anti-terror raids at home in Greenvale, in Melbourne’s northwest

Improvised bombs have been found in anti-terror raids in Greenvale this afternoon.

Police are detonating the bombs at a Greenvale reserve tonight, with the first detonated just after 8.30pm.

A 300 metre exclusion zone has been set up around the detonation site, with residents reporting a sound like a muffled gunshot as the bomb was set off.

Police are urging the public to avoid the area as the Victoria Police Bomb Response Unit perform the controlled detonations.

Heavily armed police found the bombs as they raided the home in Clare Blvd, Greenvale, in Melbourne’s northwest, which has now been declared safe.

A nearby resident told the Herald Sun he saw two bearded men of Middle Eastern appearance being led into a police vehicle.

Interesting tidbit from a second article on the raids: “Friday’s raids follow orders overnight from police command enforcing new rules for officers, which mandate they cannot work alone, must wear bulletproof vests and be armed during work hours.”
