University of Northern Colorado president criticizes “racist attack” on campus

University of Northern Colorado President Kay Norton has sent a campus-wide email condemning racist attacks on Mexican-American studies protesters.

The attacks are said to have happened April 10, the same day UNC students and administrators took part in a public forum regarding the suspension of the Mexican-American studies program.

The Greeley Tribune reports UNC students critical of the university’s decision to suspend the Mexican-American studies program had objects thrown at them and were subjected to racist and demeaning diatribes.

School officials say the college major was suspended because of low enrollment.

No doubt it occurring to students that a degree in Mexican-American Studies is an expensive ticket to nowhere.
