Like many of you, we are shocked and grieving at the daily news of hundreds of migrant deaths in the Mediterranean Sea. Nearly 2,000 people have died since the start of the year, a 1,000 of them just over the last two weeks.
Join us at the Italian Consulate in Toronto on April 29th, at 1:15pm, at 136 Beverly Street (Dundas & Beverly) to insist no more migrant deaths!
Also on April 29th are two other important events. At 12noon, we are coordinating a picket at the Toronto Stock Exchange in support of Secwepemc Women Warriors Society’s call to demand the eviction of Imperial Metals and to stop the reopening of the Mount Polley Mine. Last August Imperial Metals dumped 25 million cubic meters of toxic mining waste from the Mount Polley Mine into Secwepemc territory, the worst environmental disaster in recent Canadian history. Less than a year later, the BC government is trying to re-open the mine. Join us to insist no. Facebook event page
Later in the evening on April 29th, at 7pm, come to Ryerson University, 350 Victoria Street. On September 26, 2014, 43 Mexican student-teachers from Ayotzinapa were disappeared by Mexican state authorities in Iguala, Mexico. The resulting social movement has seen millions of people take to the streets in over 100 cities around the world. Now, for the first time, organizers from Ayotzinapa will be speaking in Toronto about their experiences, and calling for support. to listen to leaders of one the most critical social movements in recent Mexican history.
