EU leaders to consider military intervention against Libyan migrant traffickers

European Union leaders meeting in Brussels on Thursday will consider launching a military operation against Libyan migrant traffickers, a draft statement seen by AFP showed on Wednesday night.

On the eve of the emergency EU summit on migration in Brussels, Matteo Renzi, the Italian prime minister, said the country was “at war” with migrant traffickers, who are responsible for the deaths of as many as 1,000 migrants in the past week alone.

    The Good Ship Poppycock?

But, but, but… aren’t they really all just “climate refugees,” no matter what the seeming cause? Come on, have a heart, and let them in. Crime sprees, religious fanaticism and destruction of your economy and culture are such a small price to pay for being humane. //ss//

Reminds me of a true incident, covered by BCF a year or so ago. Russia was threatening Eastern Europe somewhere, I forget where. And the European Community, worried about this, threatened Russia by, get this, threatening to hold a meeting to decide what to do about Russia’s threat. The EC is so rotten, so cobwebbed with do nothing talkers, they must fret about holding meetings! The EU is so pitiful, it is laughable, if the full story was not so sad.

US warships now protect sea lanes near Yemen. I think they may be treated as an accessible bit of the US. Boats could approach a warship and the occupants could scupper their boat knowing they’ll be rescued and in the hope that they’ll end up as refugees in the US. It’ll be interesting to see what happens.

That’s pretty funny. They will help more of them to ‘safely cross’. Everyone knows that. Good thing they’re not Jews though because the Royal navy would be sinking them with everyone aboard.
