‘Cake, do you mean bomb?’ – Dismal attempt at plot code in terror case exposed

A terror suspect’s hapless attempt to plot a “Lee Rigby” style attack in secret code failed when the young man he was trying to groom inadvertently revealed the truth, a court has heard.

Kazi Islam used words like “cake” when trying to persuade vulnerable Harry Thomas to buy the necessary ingredients to make a bomb.

But email exchanges revealed his attempt at subterfuge failed as Mr Thomas replied “cake? U mean the b o m b”, the Old Bailey was told.

In another exchange, Islam, 18, told 19-year-old Mr Thomas to “keep you mouth shut” after the older youth admitted he had “only told a few mates” of Islam’s alleged plans.
