Ben Affleck’s slave-owning ancestor ‘censored’ from genealogy show

Ben Affleck asked that a slave owning ancestor not be included when he appeared on a genealogy programme in the United States, according to leaked Sony emails. .

The star of upcoming movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice explored his family history on Finding Your Roots, which is broadcast by PBS.

According to the emails he was one of a number of high-profile guests who turned out to have slave owning forebears, but the only one to want it edited out.

Affleck was not named in the email exchange between the show’s host Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr and top Sony executive Michael Lynton in July last year. He was referred to as Batman and a “megastar”.

Professor Gates wrote: “For the first time one of our guests has asked us to edit out something about one of his ancestors – the fact that he owned slaves.

Most of my ancestors originated in the North and South Carolina area (e.g. “Murrell’s Inlet” in South Carolina), and there were a number of slave owners in my family. And looking at Facebook entries, there are a lot of Murrell-African Americans around (former slaves of ours). To deny this history is so, so dumb, it boggles my mind. Simply laughable.

get your slaves under control david…

blacks ran slave trade in Africa from day one
many blacks in US owned slaves prior to the Civil War

  • BillyHW

    Didn’t Obama try that too?

  • eMan14

If you are going to open your closet, make sure you know what’s in it.
Lighten up Ben… you didn’t own the slaves yourself.

Ben Affleck is in denial about a lot of things. If you explore anyone’s ancestory, you’re bound to find unpleasant facts and characters…murderers, rapists, war criminal…you name it. Get over it.
When Kevin Bacon and his wife researched their lineage, they found out they were actually distant cousins
    Never liked Afflect

Ben Affleck has to be mighty dumb to censor history. His desire to cover up the facts shows that he ‘can’t handle the truth.’ He thinks we will blame him for his ancestors? More likely, he thinks black people will blame him. That says he believes black people are inherently unfair and that is racist. So Ben Affleck in talking down to black people, treats them as irresponsible children. That, in his own words, is ‘Gross and racist.’

Censoring history is the Democrat thing to do.

  • moraywatson

This is the same twit who shows up on Bill Maher’s show and wants to edit out that mohammed was a pedophilic, mass murderering, slave owner. I’m noticing a pattern.

  • WalterBannon

How long before one of Ben Affleck’s descendants asks to write Ben out of the family tree too?

  • barryjr

What a fool, reasonable people would have just shrugged their shoulders and went oh well. He’s just proving what a publicity whore he is being worried about what his ancestors did 160 years ago.

  • Dana Garcia

What a typical case of Hollywood liberal arrogance for Afleck to want people to think he is without sin, generationally speaking. Nobody is responsible for what ancestors did a century ago.

Anyway, the math is rather daunting — which I just looked up. Everyone has 128 5th great grandparents, for example.

I was delighted to discover my extremely lowland Scots ancestors had a generational alternation between smuggling and manning the anti smuggling cutter in the Irish sea, Ancestors can’t be changed so you might as well enjoy, Affleck’s ancestors are probably distressed to see the family bloodline culminate in such piss poor acting and general pencil necked geekdom.

  • Ron MacDonald

Idiot, many people have never heard of or watched the show, now everyone knows his ancestor was a slave owner.

    • Surele Surele

      Who is Ben Affleck?

      • JoKeR

The only reason he is known, is he is known as Mr. Jennifer Garner.

  • Hard Little Machine

What the hell is that jacket made out of? Life vests?

  • Ben Affleck is a douchebag.

He seems like the sort of guy who’d be in favour of reparations, so I’m sure he’ll track down the descendants of the slaves his ancestor owned and write them some very big cheques.

    Totally. That will definitely happen.

Actor Don Cheadle Finds Out His Ancestors Were Enslaved – But Not By Who You Think
“and according to some other ex-slaves, the Chickasaw were cruel slavemasters, as much any any White owner.”

    • I saw that. Poor Cheadle (a very good actor) was clearly utterly nonplussed by it.

  • Norman_In_New_York

It was what it was. Why can’t Ben handle the truth?

Good luck getting GLAAD to own-up to the Homosexuals that ran the farming via Slaves . The Black gays have joined the White middle to upper class gays and lesbians to demonize the West and Christians with their large numbers that can get CEO’s fired and businesses shut down.

Forget about ISIS throwing gays from roof tops or iran boasting of hanging 4000+ and counting. No sir, the real oppression and crisis is having Pizza at a gay wedding or the Wedding cake with same-gender figures on top .
The CEO from Mozilla lost his job from these fascist Brown-shirt thugs that were upset because the CEO agree with Obama and Hillary’s stance on marriage back in 2009 to be for 1 man/ 1 women .

Hell, gays still won’t own up to their brothers that were in the Gestapo and were admired for being cruel to people when tortured by them .

Well that explains his claims as an African expert.
