Turing notebook sells for £700k

A NOTEBOOK used by Alan Turing to help crack the Nazi’s Enigma code has sold for £700,000.

The book – which had never been seen in public before – dates from 1942 when the computer genius was working at the secret code breaking centre at Bletchley Park, Bucks.

It contains 56 pages of handwritten workings and provides a remarkable insight into the thought process of tragic Turing, who was last year portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch in The Imitation Game.

The book went under the hammer at Bonhams’ Fine Books and Manuscripts sale in New York.
