al Shabaab Carry Out Deadly Attack on Somali Education Ministry Building

MOGADISHU, Somalia — Nine people were killed and 15 were wounded in an attack on Somalia’s Ministry of Higher Education on Tuesday that involved a suicide bombing followed by a gunfight, witnesses and officials said.

The attack, for which the Islamist militant group the Shabab claimed responsibility, took place a day after the ministry said it would introduce centralized exams for all schools, witnesses and officials said.

After the suicide car bombing at the offices of the Ministry of Higher Education in the capital, Mogadishu, four gunmen entered the building and clashed with guards inside, witnesses said.
