Ontario’s deficit 68% higher than the combined deficits of Ottawa, the other nine provinces, and three territories

When Ontario Finance Minister Charles Sousa boasted last week about reducing the Liberals’ projected $12.5 billion deficit for 2014-2015 to $10.9 billion, he forgot to mention one important thing.

That is that at $10.9 billion, Premier Kathleen Wynne’s deficit is 68% higher than the combined deficits for 2014-2015 of the federal government, the other nine provinces and the three territories. Yes, you read that right.

The combined federal, provincial and territorial deficits for 2014-2015 add up to $6.47 billion, compared to Ontario’s $10.9 billion.
