A bunch of 11-year-old boys watch Aliens for the first time

Read it all. I love the fact that Vasquez was the team favorite. Contrary to feminist histrionics, it’s not boyish girls who unnerve boys, it’s girly girls who do that. (Also, Vasquez is an awesome character. And as the kid said, “she died like a boss”.)

    I love the original.
Which I remember going to see with a couple of friends one night. We had no idea what the movie was like. And we missed the first showing so we bought our tickets for the next showing and hung around a bit.
And after a while a young lady came out of the theater and screamed at the ticket lady… “That was fucking disgusting. I want my money back!”
Needless to say we were hooked. And loved it.

    • I once read someone who said that, when he saw the original Alien (’79) in the cinema, it was genuinely shocking to the audience that the hero turned out to be the girl. It’s not that they minded, or that they had a problem with tough female characters (Ripley is like that from the beginning): but, in the end, the Last Man Standing was supposed to be one of the guys (probably Dallas).

      I love Ripley.

In the original script, Dallas was going to be the protagonist. Then Sigourney came along.

Alien 5 has been announced and will be released in 2016.

        • And I think Veronica Cartwright was supposed to be the Ripley character, whoever she was supposed to be. The main female character anyway.

“Alien 5 has been announced and will be released in 2016.”

          Will probably not watch.

Did you edit that comment? If so I should be allowed to apply another thumbs up.

One of the engineers at work – Kris, my mate from Poland – is a gymnast and was doing pull ups at lunch time using the exposed beams on the walkway … one handed chin ups, that is. Another engineer in our section, from Singapore – a black belt in Tai Kwan Do (but the gentlest person one could ever meet) – was walking past and Kris invited him to have a go. He did, using one finger – the little finger – to do a chin up.

Great movie. “Get away from her, you bitch!”

They’ve greenlit Aliens 5 which will be a direct sequel to ‘Aliens’ and will ignore 3&4.

    • That line could have been such a killer. If the movie had turned out to be a horrible, messy flop, which I kind of see how it could have done, “get away from her YOU BITCH!” would surely have gone down as one of the most hilarious unintentionally camp lines in movie history.

The supposed prequel, Prometheus, was a total mess.
