Why Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Converted to Islam

I was born Lew Alcindor. Now I’m Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

The transition from Lew to Kareem was not merely a change in celebrity brand name — like Sean Combs to Puff Daddy to Diddy to P. Diddy — but a transformation of heart, mind and soul. I used to be Lew Alcindor, the pale reflection of what white America expected of me. Now I’m Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the manifestation of my African history, culture and beliefs.

For most people, converting from one religion to another is a private matter requiring intense scrutiny of one’s conscience. But when you’re famous, it becomes a public spectacle for one and all to debate. And when you convert to an unfamiliar or unpopular religion, it invites criticism of one’s intelligence, patriotism and sanity. I should know.

Even though I became a Muslim more than 40 years ago, I’m still defending that choice…

  • I prefer to think of him as Captain Roger Murdoch.

So he converted to the only religion still trading in black slaves?

120 million Africans died in the Islamic slave trade which is still going on.

  • ontario john

I will settle for just calling him “dickhead”.

  • Raymond Hietapakka

Good thing he was born over here, in the 20th Century. He still has his gonads intact…unlike centuries of his black muzzle’em brethren before him. I wonder if he knows that?

good point that is why there are no Arabic Fergusons, the males were routinely castrated. 20% death rate from bleeding out. The blacks with Arabic features are the descendants of the female black sex slaves.

  • ntt1

another ignorant black embracing the slave culture that sold his ancestors . muslims still slave trade to this day,

Also, the Koran doesn’t forbid marijuana use…..

Influenced by gay hustler and professional charlatan/racist Malcolm “X”.

Same as Eric Holder, who is probably a Mobot as well.

Converting to Islam…”it invites criticism of one’s intelligence, patriotism and sanity”. And so it should. Why?

Islam is 1) anti-intellectual and obscurantist 2) it is conspiratorial and revolutionary 3) it creates violent, lying sociopaths.

Which of the above apply to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar? (He may choose all.)

Funny that KAJ still resides in the land of the evil infidel Americans rather than moving to scenic Riyadh or Islamabad.

Muslims like him and Muhammad Ali were pawns like Tom Cruise is to Scientology.
An aside: Hey remember the guy who played the lead character in My Name Is Earl? Scientologist. (Jason Lee)
      Whatever happened to him?

Transport me back to the year 2000 while I’m watching Oz on HBO.
    I’m cheering for Abebisi now.

“Conversion is a risky business because it can result in losing family, friends and community support” Than why convert.

  • Just a thought

    “I’m still defending that choice.”

Less and less successfully, I trust, given the ever more disturbing behavior of Muslim true believers.

  • What a fool.

Tell me about “the manifestation of my African history, culture and beliefs”.

Is it just like the thousands of sub-Sahara, black-Africans being gunned down by Arab-African Muslims – literally today.

How a black-African can find joy in being part of the Arab-African killing cult responsible for black slavery is beyond me.
