Earth Hour Toronto Results Suck – Good Work People

Last year, Toronto Hydro reported a 6 per cent load drop during Earth Hour. A tweet from Hydro shortly after the hour ended said consumption was down 3.5 per cent, or 103 megawatts.

It is a dumb idea because people won’t live like that, moment by moment. Our society isn’t into austerity, especially Toronto.

  • moraywatson

Pretty soon every day in Kathleen Wynne’s Ontario is going to be Earth Hour.

    • We will soon be North Korontario

      • ontario john

Yes, but think of the great pride parades we can have at those empty panam buildings.

        • dance…dancetotheradio

          Faboo!

        • But we’re getting a Velodrome – every other games has built a temporary Velodrome, we’re building a permanent one.

They build temporary ones because no one ever uses them much after the games. Not Ontario though, we’re getting a much more costly permanent white elephant.

          • ontario john

And we really need that 17 million dollar building for badminton and water polo in Vaughn. And of course that million dollar horse barn near a town that needs a new hospital.

          • Oh yes much needed infrastructure, no more will subway patrons be delayed by Badminton games during rush hour.

          • Surele Surele

            Sigh…

          • Miss Trixie

Fellas! The libs are thinking ahead for your sake. When the Shames are gone, the velodrome, badminton building and the horse barn will be sold at bargain basement prices and they’ll be PERFECT for new mosques.

Just lie back and think of Muskoka … … … …

          • Oooooog….

          • zee

Maybe they’ll decide to tear it down after the games.

          • dance…dancetotheradio

Winnipeg had a velodrome after the 1967 Pan-Am Games.
For some reason they didn’t use it in 1999.
            It’s gone now.

          • ntt1

They have potential for racing motorized barstools and high performance lawn tractors , a segment of the Toronto elite that is grievously under served.

          • barryjr

Yes but Ontario will launch a super secret plan to use the energy from cyclists going round and round to generate electricity when the wind is down so windmills won’t work. It will be so secret you won’t even notice it in action.

          • I knew they had a fix!

    • mauser 98

      damn right

      • Petey

        Well, there goes my day.

    • Surele Surele

Afraid you’re right. We are already freezing our butts of during the “peak” hours.

“all planned to dim non-essential lights.”

Let’s just think about that statement for a minute. If these libtards were committed to the Gaia hokum beyond only the shallowest PC correct gestures, wouldn’t “non-essential lights” be turned off all the time?

On a personal note, did anyone see the glow near Pittsburgh, Pa during the blackout? It was my shingles and tire fire.

    • dance…dancetotheradio

Conservatives turn off non essential lights all the time.
      It’s how we conserve money.

      • Surele Surele

That’s how we operate. It saves us money (that word hated by lefties, but coveted by them in ‘flesh’), at the same time it saves the, dare I say it?, environment. Nobody is anti-environment, you numb-skulls. We just desire to do it intelligently, with real results, without destroying what we have achieved over the millennia. Not just as a gesture to ‘Mother Earth’. I have a gesture for you, but it is unprintable.

      • Clausewitz

Yeah right. According to my statements this year I used 22% less electricity but my costs went up about 18%. Must be that new Liberal math they’re teaching.

    • David Murrell

All of Earth Hour is so much PR hokum. Btw, do you live in the Pittsburgh area? I grew up in the North Hills, near Wexford, Pa.

    • Ha!

    • Blacksmith

HA!, I hope you used fossil fuel to get the fire started…….;)

A century ago, the socialist British Fabians were selling Eugenics–elitists deciding which “superior” “racial” or “ethnic” group would be allowed to reproduce. Obviously, only people like themselves would give permission only to themselves. They and a compliant press set up the same propaganda systems as the current global warming psychos–phony “scientific” studies and swift, devastating attacks on denialists. Hitler, Margaret Sanger, and others quickly latched on to the idea.
I’ve seen reports that the same breed of elitists met in 1975 in North Carolina, to plan for the reduction of an “unsustainable” world population. This would have been accomplished by winding down the industrialized world and stopping Third-World development assistance. At that time, Global Cooling was accepted scientific fact. That meme had to be shut down because it would have intensified industrialization.

George B. Shaw., HG Wells and others also

      • dance…dancetotheradio

I know little of Shaw although I should, having lived long enough to satisfy a curiosity about why his name is always bandied about.
H.G. Wells War of the Worlds was ultimately optimistic and naïve.
We haven’t prepared for war and are all going to die but we get saved because the aliens hadn’t prepared for biohazards like bacteria.
And the Time Machine is eat or be eaten.
Still, I enjoyed those stories as a kid but time to think changes the meaning of everything.

in the coming cultural clash with mohamedans the defeating agent will be Chinese take out sweet & sour pork.

And Jamaican gangbangers not being too keen on Sharia either. (For GTA-specific references.)

          • ntt1

It would be reassuring to know that Jamaican Patties are made with at least one identifiable meat such as pork, but honestly how would you know? The ones I buy in New Westminster are definitely Biohazards

    • dance…dancetotheradio

I told my socialist buddy at work that Tommy Douglas was a eugenicist.
Then I had to explain what eugenics is.
      Your hero, I said.
      Your Socialist Hero.

    • Islam and mass immigration seem to be two other faves our elites want to foist on us.

      • Petey

And why? In any rational sense, why do they want this?

        • Mass immigration benefits the corporate and political classes, i.e. suppressed wages and and ethnic voting blocks.

Citizens are in turn made compliant by using multiculturalism as bludgeon that labels any objection the result of racism.

          • Jason

But if their power and privilege is threatened by islam – which it inevitably will be – will they admit error then and try to take steps to stem the tide? (Of course, it might be too late at that point anyway.)
I read a GoV article some time ago that suggested this cynical, powerful group hope to ride the Islamic wave (converting if necessary to nominal muslims – why not? When we were a Christian society, they would do the nominal Christian act too – just part of the price of power) and maintain their privilege in the new islamic society. But i rather think if islam takes over fully they’ll be in for a rude surprise – at the very least, the females among them will lose power in that scenario (and Wynne – donning a hijab will NOT be sufficient)

          • Like the Germans found out, they will not be able to control these new Nazis.

          • dance…dancetotheradio

I might be out of line on this one because I haven’t researched it beyond listening to the radio.
North American immigration used to be very fluid.
If a Canadian wanted to go live in the States they just moved there.
Then along came Mary, I mean the welfare state and Vietnam.

  • David Murrell

CBC News reported last night (Saturday, March 27) that “thousands of people turned off the lights during Earth Hour), perpetuating the myth that EH is a success. The Corrupt Broadcasting Network has a somewhat more truthful web page article:
    http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/earth-hour-canadians-dim-lights-from-coast-to-coast-1.3013947

However, the rarely watched network blamed part of the decline on “declining support” from the Harper government, as if any sane person would want to support cheap PR tricks like Earth Hour.

    • Damn right it’s Harper’s fault.

      • Sleepy

It is!!! Harper should have shut down the CBC years ago.

    • dance…dancetotheradio

Funny thing is that I do my part every day for Earth Hour by not watching the CBC.
      Except on Hockey Night.
And then I get mad because Strombo is on there.

    • born_bred_canadian

The CEEB must have missed my house or they would have written that they were blinded by the lights 🙂

      • dance…dancetotheradio

Swept up like a douche oronoronoright.

  • Dana Garcia

This is Terrible messaging, that environmentalism means living in the dark.

A far better approach would be a message of Don’t Waste. Leaving your lights on where they’re not needed costs you money. $$$!!

    • dance…dancetotheradio

Close the door, my Dad said, are you trying to heat the whole goddamned neighbourhood?
And then I grew up and said the same goddamned thing.

  • Kathy Nelson

This is dumb. So clean hydro received a lesser demand for a display of idiocy? I doubt if ANY solar power was involved and industrial wind’s contribution is always negligible anyway (except in its environmental/wildlife destruction). Most of the lights stayed on because of hydro, nuclear, gas turbine and diesel generators. What an incredibly display of utter stupidity.

  • Uncle_Waspy

Last night I did my part to save the planet: I had brussel sprouts with my schnitzel and sealed up the holes in the ozone layer.

If you’re in the mood for some really good eats, head over to the Breadlebane Inn in Fergus, ON. (Get the schnitzel!)

    • Justin St.Denis

A good falafel sandwich accomplishes the same goal at a fraction of the cost.

  • Sleepy

Cranked every light and appliance in my house for Earth Hour yesterday. I celebrate the green myth like this every year. Just to make my point, I had piled all the wood, newspaper, plastic and even a tire and then poured gas on it all and lit her up.

Every time a greenie spews their vile agenda, I do the opposite of what they are preaching. Earth will keep spinning and China will keep burning all they can. Al Gore will get richer and governments will rape and pillage under the climate change myth and implement their thieving carbon taxes.

    Cannot wait until next year.
