Saddam Hussein’s soap dish and door knocker among more than 60 items returned to Iraq after being smuggled into the U.S.

More than 60 cultural artifacts illegally smuggled into the U.S. from Iraq were returned to the Iraqi government during a ceremony in Washington D.C. on Monday.

The move follows a culmination of investigations led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in New York, Baltimore, Austin, Texas, and New Haven, Connecticut.

Among the items salvaged were a gold-plated door knocker, water urn and soap dish from Saddam Hussein’s private airport and palace…

Just so ISIS can loot and destroy them?
    No thank you!
The Iraqis are a people that cannot be trusted with their own historical heritage.

    • I have always opposed the return of the Elgin Marbles to Greece. I mean I did oppose it even as a child, instinctively. You can’t trust these sorts of countries (yeah, Greece is technically Europe. On a good day. Just about. Whatever) to protect these things.

If only the remains of Nimrud had somehow been moved wholesale to the British Museum.

But then at this point I don’t know how long I trust Britain to protect the British Museum. I’m horrified almost to type this out loud, but what if some little chav jihadi shithead gets it into his mind to do damage to the pre-Muslim, pre-Arab artifacts in the museum?

It used to be a sort of smarmy joke: some oil-rich Yankee lunatic buys historical stuff from Europe and ships it to the States because he thinks it would look cool in his back yard in the desert. Here’s the kind of thing: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/article-1262562/Tower-Bridge-sold-America-130million-billionaire-buys-right-bridge-time.html

Hysterical. I wish he’s bought the lot up.

Nor is this really the Iraqis’ own heritage. They have no cultural or racial link to ancient Mesopotamia, and Savonarola has nothing on these retarded fiends. Most Muslims would never destroy antiquities, if only because, in addition to being Muslims, and profiteers from the tourist industry, they are also Iraqis/Egyptians etc. (I have said repeatedly that while there may be no moderate Islam, there are lots of Muslims who just aren’t all that Muslim) The ISIS and related fanatics will take their barbaric scriptures to their logical conclusions.

I agree with everything you just said, but I especially feel that way when it comes to pre-historic artifacts that are claimed as a “cultural artifact” by “indigenous peoples” who have no real connection to what they are claiming.
Lots of Pacific Islanders are getting in on this scam too.

        • In Canada it’s a whole industry. Everything is a potential Indian burial ground or the like.
