Footage emerges of ‘British schoolgirls in Turkey’ before crossing into Syria
It was reportedly filmed by the ‘spy’ arrested by Turkish police, accused of helping the schoolgirls cross into Syria
Footage has emerged apparently showing the three schoolgirls who fled to Syria to join Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) in Turkey before they crossed the border.
It was reportedly filmed by an individual who helped Shamima Begum, 15, Kadiza Sultana, 16, and Amira Abase, 15, cross into Syria last month.
Turkish newspaper Daily Sabah reported that the individual assisting the teenagers was the same person arrested by the Turkish authorities, announced by the foreign minister on Thursday.
Mevlüt Çavuşoglu, in what appeared to be impromptu remarks in a television interview on Thursday, said: “Do you know who the person who helped the girls turned out to be?
“Someone who works for the intelligence service of a country that is part of the coalition.”
