Politics – Muslim Style in the UK
When questioned Cllr Golds admitted it “could be argued” most of the aggressive tactics in the borough were carried out by those of Bangladeshi origin. When asked by Mayor Rahman’s representative Duncan Penny QC if he was wary of singling them out, the witness responded he was.
He went on to say there was an abundance of allegations of “racism and Islamophobia” in Tower Hamlets politics, particularly at Town Hall and led by the mayor’s colleagues.
“Before every single council meeting, my group goes through every question, every motion,” said Mr Golds. “And we will spend half the group meeting to ensure that nothing in a motion can result in us being accused of racism, because at virtually every meeting, Tower Hamlets First, under the leadership of Lutfur Rahman, will accuse you of racism and Islamophobia.”
Cllr Golds also said he thought the Metropolitan Police had been “extremely poor” in following up allegations of election misconduct.
