Iran’s Suspect Deal in the Making

By all indications both the Islamic Republic’s “Supreme Guide” Ali Khamenei and US President Barack Obama appear determined to reach some sort of agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue. The deadline they seem to have fixed is March 31, which coincides with the end of Iranian New Year holidays.

Earlier this week, in an interview with Reuters, Obama hinted at the broad outlines of the putative accord.

Under it, Iran’s nuclear program will be frozen at more or less the present level which, speaking quickly so that he would say it without being caught out, Obama said would keep Iran a year away from building its first bomb if it ever decided to do so.

In exchange, Iran would agree to remain in that position, known as “threshold,” for 10 years, a “sunset” clause that could be reviewed after five years.

In other words, after a minimum of five and a maximum of 10 years Iran would be free to cross the “threshold” from the current one year to months or even weeks, going high-gear producing a nuclear arsenal. In other words, Obama has decided to resign himself to the possibility of a nuclear-armed Islamic Republic…

  • Given that neither Iran nor North Korea have stopped their nuclear ambitions, this is Obama allowing the status quo but in slow motion.

    It’s time to impeach.

    I think everyone is looking at this the wrong way. Iran has the tech to build a nuke, they have the will as well. What I think they are missing is the enriched materials. I think they are nearly done enriching enough for the first nuke if they have not already done it. I suspect that they plan on having enough material to build several nukes so that they can have enough to wipe out Israel in one volley and a single nuke would not do the job well enough to guarantee a massive retaliation from remaining Israeli forces.

    Also if they use one nuke everyone will suspect that was their only one but if they use multiple then it implies they have more and the threat of those is useful as well.

    time for Operation Orchard. Just a little surprise for the Mullahs. And then: we do not admit or deny… that’ll work.

      It would be best if someone where to cause an iranian nuke to “accidentally” detonate inside iran. It would prove that they are building them, it would prove to everyone that O is an idiot and it would make them look incompetent in their construction; but the mullahs would know it was someone else.

        Heh;

          Seriously it would be a good thing.

          1) It would make everyone aware of how they have been lying about the purposes of their nuclear program.
          2) Obama would have another failure under his belt and Bibi would be right again.
          3) The Mullahs would have egg on their face and it would likely lead to them loosing control.
          4) It would destroy their nuclear infrastructure since they have it mostly in one location.
          5) It would appear as an accidental detonation; so no one could be blamed for it and the ones doing it couldget away with it with out UN sanctions.

    So Bibi got it right.
